Hello Friends, How are you today? A few weeks ago I mentioned that I had something fun that I was working on and I am so excited to share what that is today 🙂
THIS Wednesday March 4th I am hosting a 30 DAY COLORING CHALLENGE & I would love for you to join me.
The idea is to color something everyday even if it’s for five minutes. Just five minutes that’s it. Some days you or I will have more time and that’s even better. It’s just about adding more time to color and carve out a little time for something that makes you happy. Just so you know I will NOT be making a card every day … just coloring.
The definition of coloring is the act or method of applying color so that means I will be using many mediums to color during the 30 days. I HAVE A VIDEO TO SHARE HOW I ORGANIZED MY SUPPLIES (I want to have my supplies at the ready for easy access).
CAN YOU PARTICIPATE IN MY 30 DAY CHALLENGE?: Wow that would be awesome if you want to participate or jump in at any time.Woo Hoo!! THERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO SHARE what you are coloring even if you don’t color everyday. You can share your work where ever you are comfortable like Facebook, Instagram, Flicker, your Blog etc. If you use this hashtag #thedailymarker30day I can find your work or you can link with the Inlinkz tool on Day One on my blog. If you don’t card Instagram is the easiest for me to comment on your art work.
WILL THERE BE PRIZES? YES! You can’t have a challenge without prizes right? FOUR participants will win goodie bags chock full of stuff. I will randomly select 2 winners from my blog and 2 winners from Instagram at the end of the 30 day challenge. The more you share the more chances you have to win. If you share on Instagram you must use the #thedailymarker30day (so I can find your projects). If you share by linking on my blog you don’t have to use the hashtag. (the InLinkz tool will be on the DAY ONE POST) Please share on one or the other 🙂 thanks
The winners will be announced on my blog Monday April 6th so please check back to see if you won.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ME: I will be posting on my blog daily and on Instagram daily. SOME DAYS I might make a one layer card & some days I might just color an image. There will be days I will use my watercolor sketch book (a must have) to draw or paint and somedays if something is more complex I will come back to it the next day. There will be watercoloring with different mediums and I will be using all kinds of different markers such as Sharpies, Bic markers and Copics.
THE GOAL IS: To color something everyday no matter what happening. (I know that I am happier when I am coloring even if it’s for 10 minutes.) I also want to show you that you can use inexpensive supplies to create something pretty. Hopefully together along the way we will all stretch our creativity a little bit more.
ANY QUESTIONS: If you have a question please leave a comment and I will answer the question in the comment area on this post.
I hope you are as excited as I am and I am beyond thrilled that you might consider playing along. (as I mentioned feel free to jump in and out of the 30 days if that makes you more comfortable). Thanks!!Kathy
MOST of the SUPPLIES I will be using for the #thedailymarker30day see below: my Copic color I just plucked random colors.

So today I saw your blog post about this challenge, and thought ” Maybe this is just what I need!!” So I am gonna take you on girlfriend!!! Lol. So I am gonna do this for 30 days and I love that it doesn’t have to be making a card for 30 days but coloring for 30 days. It is a great way to get some images prepared for future creations. So I am excited and I am wondering if there is a time that we start and finish each day or whenever we are done that day to post it to our blog or somewhere online? Anyway I am looking forward to getting started. I am gonna actually go and find the things that you have on your list here or things that are similar. I’m actually really excited for this challenge. It makes me wish I had more stamps that were colourable but I have some book pages with line art I’ve been hoarding to colour and a few other items that I keep putting off. Such an inspiration!
Kathy Racoosin says
Hurray Cassandra so happy you will be playing along. There will be lots of different things we will be coloring (not all stamped images) Have you tired digital images? Thats an inexpensive way and it’s fun because you can play with the size. You don’t need a fancy printer either. I just download the image to “word” and print it from there. 🙂
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Cassandra, Forgive me If I replied to you before but, just in case I didn’t lol. You really don’t need a lot of images to color….I think you will be fine, So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂

I’m so excited about this, Kathy! The thing that hit home with me the most while reading this was when you wrote, “…..no matter what’s happening in my life, I’m happier when I’m coloring…..” It dawned on me that I feel the same way. I love to color too and wish I had more time for it, but you’re so right – even if it’s just for 5 or 10 minutes, it helps make my day better! Thank you for bringing this challenge to us – hugs! ♥

I’m DEFINITELY going to join in! I’ve been doing #yearofmaking for 2 weeks now…which is the longest I’ve ever managed on a make-something-every-day type project so this will fit in nicely. I’m also slowing working my way into Instagram, so this is perfect! I’m sure I won’t manage to blog every day (I hope to do that in chunks), but I can sure take a simple picture and post it every day! Thanks so much for the great idea and great inspiration!
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks Marissa. OMG do not post everyday that’s crazy and way to much work. You can also upload to flickr to share your work on INlinkz if that makes sense. BUT the idea is to color and enjoy and not stress so how every you can simplify the better. So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂
Judy Jung says

Joan VanCourt says
Hi Kathy. Thanks for the video. Going to assemble my items today to join in on your challenge. I am new to Instagram, so I need to figure that out. I never used the Bic or Sharpies to color, either. Here is my dilemma… I could sit and color forever, but what if I color something and I don’t have the pretty designer papers to match? Or do you prematch your paper and then color? Just a thought. I guess this is what hangs me up on precoloring images for future use. HELP. LOL.
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Joan, You don’t need to be in Instagram to join in but, it’s a great community if someone can show you how. I am using different mediums because not everyone has Copic markers…you don’t need them. I never pre match cardstock but, I just solid colors mostly. So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂
Jamie Vanskiver says
I love this idea! I will be following along in the fun! I’m not computer savvy so I won’t be posting any pics but I definitely will be coloring-even if it’s for 10 mns a day- with you:)
Kathy Racoosin says
Awesome Jamie!! So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂

Kathy Racoosin says
Yay!! So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂
cathym53 says
Thanks for the pre-challenge video. I’m going to join you in the coloring challenge. You mentioned you may not be making cards everyday … that’s what got me thinking about joining in. I’m going to color images everyday and not make them into cards until later. That way I can explore the markers and pens and just have fun without worry about the design of a card.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thats awesome Cathy and you certainly got the whole point of the challenge. Woo Hoo! So happy your taking the challenge 🙂
Katheryn Thames says
I am SO in for this! What a fantastic challenge. Kathy, you are plain ol’ BRILLIANT!
Kathy Racoosin says
Awwww thanks Katheryn that’s so sweet!! So happy your taking the challenge 🙂
Donna Dacy says
Going to try and get some coloring in each day. Having out of town guests so it may be hard to do but I am going to try. House needs a good cleaning before they get here..lol I love this idea. Off to find a quick project.
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Donna, Maybe we can get your guest to color too? If not jump in when time permits. The idea is to color 🙂 good luck cleaning
Sheri K says
I’m in! I recently purchased a mixed media art journal, keep it by my chair with a variety of pens and pencils. My”rule” for using it–no erasing! I’m highly critical of my work so told myself I can’t erase, just go with the flow. I can easily draw or color while I watch TV in the evenings. I also want to play with some other mediums, today plan to try stamping and coloring with alcohol inks. I also just purchased a smart watch, to track my exercise and sleep. It vibrates after an hour of no moving, which is great, now I can color every day and move–and it will make me happy! Thanks for having this challenge, it will motivate to get more things done and practice coloring!
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Sheri, Thanks for sharing and that smart watch sounds cool!! So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂
Beth Holt says
This is a great challenge. Thanks for your video on how you organized all of your supplies to prepare. I love how easily you are able to transport material with you if needed. I might try to pop in and out for this, but highly doubt that I can commit to 30 straight days.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks Beth, Just take it day by day and see how you do. Jumping in and out is sooo fine if that’s what works best. Just so that we all color more is the goal 🙂
Amyjzs says
I’m going to try this, it’s just what I need to motivate me. How do I post a photo to a blog? I’m sorry I don’t know how!
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Amyjzs, Oh no you don’t need to post a photo to a blog but, wait and see for my next post and that might clear up your question? And that’s only if you want to share what you colored. 🙂
Victoria H. says
I love the beautiful things you color with your Copics and can’t wait to see how you use some of your other coloring choices! Thank you for getting this started; sounds like great fun with some relaxation added too! I hope to do the whole 30 days but will definitely follow and watch your progress.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks Victoria So happy you are taking the challenge and hopefully you find it rewarding 🙂
Tricia Barber says
I am in! I love to just color! It is my stress reliever and so relaxing! You have inspired me to take the challenge. Normally I only do it on the weekend. But 10 minutes I can find that time! I am going to go home and get my basket ready!
Kathy Racoosin says
Awesome Tricia so happy to hear that it’s a stress reliever. It is for me too. So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂
Dotty A says

Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks Dotty! So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂
Kimberly Edddy says
How fun!!! You inspire me with your mad coloring skills anyway, but doing a challenge for 30 days and not “stressing” about trying to do a whole card, just laying down some color and having fun sounds great!!! Thanks for prompting me to get busy Kathy!! HUGS!
Kathy Racoosin says
Yay Kimberly!! Yes, it’s kinda back to the basics…just to color for the fun of it. So happy your taking the challenge 🙂
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Kimberly, I agree about stressing to do an entire card. It’s all about the joy of coloring for the challenge. So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂 Now go get busy lol
Linda K says
Count me in…maybe this will get me inspired….I’m off to stamp some images. Thanks for the challenge.

Jean M says
This might be just what I need to get my mojo back! I’m going to give it my best to join in every day. Thanks for inviting me.
Kathy Racoosin says
Awesome that you are “in” Jean 🙂
Isabelle G says
this is an awesome challenge idea! it just might be the push i need to get back into things.., does it have to be coloring stamped images or can it be something i sketched as long as it’s “colored”?
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks Isabelle!! You can color anything and a sketch is even better. So happy your taking the challenge 🙂
Corinne says
Such a fab idea!! I really need to keep up with my coloring to maintain that type of skill with Copics! I’ll be following along and playing on my craft IG @rinnesbliss (I once tagged you there but meant Suzy plantamura ;)). Thank you!!!
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Corinne, So happy you are taking the challenge and I hope you get a lot out of it. Yes I remember that IG thing 🙂 Have a great night and see you soon
Katie B. says
This sounds like a great idea! I would like to participate. I know that when I was able to go to Angela’s after work on Thursdays and color I used to just zone out and have fun with it. Today I am having to connect online more so than in person. I think this will be fun!
Katie B.
Kathy Racoosin says
Katie I am so glad that you are taking the challenge. At least I can “see” you this way. Hope all is well with you. Hugs, Kathy
Nora says
This sounds like fun. I could do this during lunch instead of gabbing with the girls. Coloring always refreshes me for some reason. It seems to calm my mind. I am so in!!
Kathy Racoosin says
Awesome Nora…maybe you can turn your lunch pals into coloring. 🙂
bev p says
I colored my way through nursing school and officer candidate school (Navy) as a way to relax. The only supplies I had was a box of Crayola’s and a coloring book. It was a great way to unwind and de-stress between classes or at the end of the day! Only just now re-discovering how much fun it is. And I have way more toys to play with. Can’t wait. Unfortunately, I will be having hand surgery later this month and will be in a cast for three months. I am afraid it will mess with my messy art time as well as my garden-planting. We’ll see. I will more than likely find a way for those things, but be unable to figure out how to vacuum!!!
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Bev, Hopefully we can get you some good creative time before your surgery…bummer. Looks like it will be a good excuse to get out of vacuuming. Thanks for joining in the challenge 🙂
Teresa says
I am not on Instagram but I will doing my best to make it through all 30 days of colouring. Does it count if I am colouring with my 3 yr. old grandson, using Crayola’s? (Even if it doesn’t, he & Nanny will be having fun!) I’ll get my goodies out and ready!
Kathy Racoosin says
Yes, yes! it counts Teresa so happy that you will play along with your grandson. 🙂
Maureen Hayes says
Hi Sweetie!
I subscribe via email, so I guess the posts come a day behind. Luckily, I saw your video tonight on YouTube so I can check first thing tomorrow morning and start in with you. I have almost all the same coloring mediums as you because I am a total color junkie. . . Lol! Thank you for doing this, I need it right now more than ever. I heard you mention the hospital and doctors, I hope all is well there? Please let me know, I care!
Hugs,
Maureen
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Maureen, I will be working hard so that the posts go live at the right time and won’t be a day behind. If I am organized I will probably let my post go live at 1 am or midnight if your up you go to my blog and see it before most. The mail of my post should come through at 9am? So everything should be current if that makes sense. So fun to hear you have most of the same supplies…we should have a good time.
My hubby is having double knee surgery next week…so that’s what I was referring to. EEk!!Since I let the cat out of the bag I will post about it. Thanks for caring so much and I am So happy you are taking the challenge.Hugs
Rufus says
This came at just the right time! I’m really looking forward to it, esp. since we don’t have to complete something everyday, but just color. I try to do something crafty everyday, but have been slipping the last couple of weeks. But now I’m back on track! I don’t have all the coloring mediums that you do, but that’s fine I love the ones I have. Posting things is a bit of a pain for me, so may not post everyday….could I upload the pic’s just every couple of days? Hope that everything is ok..you mentioned spending time in hospitals. Thanks for the inspiration!
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Rufus I showed so many mediums in my video so that I can appeal to everyone hopefully but, you certainly don’t need all those goodies. If you have a blog you certainly don’t need to post what you are doing. This really is about finding the love of coloring again. If you want to share or link up that’s great too. 🙂 What ever works
My hubby is having double knee surgery next week…so that’s what I was referring to. EEk!! So happy you are taking the challenge.
Carol Mc says
I think this is a fabulous challenge. It will let me explore and make the most of all those coloring tools I’ve been hoarding. I’m in and looking forward to the challenge.

Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Carolyn, The only markers that need to be horizontal that I know of are the Distress ones. So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂
Maggie N says
Question. I’m confused. On your blog, I thought the challenge was 5 mins but on the video, you said 10.
Maggie N says
I meant to say is it a timed challenge or did I read it wrong. Oops
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Maggie,
Nooo, it isn’t a timed challenge 🙂 Yikes, That would stress me out.. I was just talking about how you could take 5 or 10 min out of your day to color…whatever works for you. It is supposed to be fun and a great way to be creative no matter how much time you have. Some days you might not have time and you can feel free to jump in and out as needed. Happy coloring! 🙂
AJ says
ok, I SO need to join in. I could use some coring practice. 🙂
Natalie H says

Kathy your go to color basket is awesome, I never though of a soft basket, I always have the hard plastic, and the paper cups that you can smooch, you can’t do that with plastic containers, I am ready and waiting to get started on this 30 day journey with you, you are and awesome teacher and I have learned so much from you over the past couple of years, You are a Go To Girl!
Kathy Racoosin says

Yea! So glad the challenge has started. I found some cool doodle-y looking tissue paper, so I’m going to start the challenge off by coloring part of that…;)
Marianne says
This sounds like lot of fun, Kathy. I always want to ‘own’ every type of colouring medium but never seem to get round to actually use them. Or not use them enough to start being fully comfortable using them. I will try to colour ‘for fun’ this month, even if I may not be sharing everything on my blog.

Coloring is my number 1 “de-stress” activity…. Even if it’s for just 5 minutes! I think this challenge is an awesome idea. So I have pre-stamped a bunch of images and gathered some of my fave copic colors and stashed them in my desk at work…. this way, I can color on my lunch break. So excited to start!

It seems that I’m a bit late to the party, but I definitely plan to catch up! This is so exciting!

What a wonderful challenge….I’m a bit late joining the party but I will participate as I can. Great ideas on getting organized! I have pens here there and everywhere! 😉
I do have a question…how do you ordinarily store your white Signo pen? I have tried cap up, cap down and horizontally and I still never seem to be able to get a full ink’s use out, if that makes sense. It rolls well at first and then gets gloppy (technical term) or skips.
Thanks, Kathy!
Lisa (ThePurplePlace) says
So excited…..
Sorry for my delayed response-this fun idea started when I was out of it in the hospital….
But, I LOVE it and am so excited to join the fun, as soon as I’m able to color, which should NOT be too much longer~~
Yippee!!!

A friend sent me a link to your site and told me all about the coloring challenge. I have been coloring since I was a child. Then I had 4 years of art in high school besides all the art we did in grade school. When I got out of high school I was told I was to old to color anymore and coloring books were made for kids, not adults. Then I got hooked on stamping when I took classes in it. Of course with stamping comes coloring and I was in love again. I found a few companies that made coloring books for adults when I worked in retail but discovered Dover Publications has a bazillion and one coloring books. Now I can really color all the time and I do. I color a lot. I also stamp on clothing and I love to color that in too! The problem is my printer isn’t working. I don’t know if I need a new one or to have this one fixed so I can’t send you anything I am doing now. However, I have tons of things I have done saved on my computer if you would like to see something. Friends from card making web sites tell me my coloring is so good that I would love to show you. I am so glad I found this web site. It is so like me! I am so going to check you out further.
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Gail! Thanks for reaching out to me and sharing your story with me. You sound so talented!! Do you have a smart phone? That’s always a great way to share what you are up to. Just so you know I am not so good keeping in touch & answering emails. It’s a big fault that I am always trying to improve. Are you taking the coloring challenge? Thanks for reaching out and a warm welcome to you… so happy you found my blog 🙂
Renee VanEpps says
This is such a great idea Kathy 🙂 Anytime someone gives me permission to color, I know it will be a great day!! Seriously love it, so relaxing. I’ve been coloring daily but haven’t shared any yet 🙁 I have developed a strange phobia of uploading stuff, don’tknow why!!! Maybe today I will push myself to at least do Instagram!! Thanks Kathy for always inspiring and showing us that we don’t have to use the most expensive products to make something nice 🙂
Margie says
I really love your blog … I stumbled upon it and been watching ever since … Love your style
Kathy Racoosin says
Wow thanks Margie!!! 🙂 A warm welcome to you.
Anne Matthews says
Great idea Kathy. I love to color ever since I was a child many many moons ago. I just added a card that I watercolored yesterday. Actually I sketched the design instead of using a stamp. This is the first time I sketched anything. Didn’t know I could draw.
Thanks again,
Anne

I just found your site (thanks to Pinterest) and I have been doing the 30 day color challenge without realizing that’s what I’ve been doing! My church is having a card sale in few weeks to help support missionaries, so I’ve been coloring up a storm! I try to color a little or a lot every day. My Copics and Distress markers have been getting quite the workout! I haven’t put anything together, yet. When I do I will post them on Instagram. Thanks for the encouragement!
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Maggie, that’s awesome you will be jumping in the challenge. You might want to follow me on IG kathyrac and just use the hashtag #thedailymarker30day and I will be able to find your work. 🙂

I am keen color fan and like the challenge you created. Hats off. Can’t wait? Should we draw and color for all 30 days or just we need to color the image for all the days?
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Craftmommy, Thank you 🙂 Really it’s an anything goes challenge. Play each day by ear and see what you feel like doing. All of the above will work 🙂
Kathy Racoosin says
Hi Craftmommy, It’s really an “anything” works challenge. Whatever time permits and you feel like doing. 🙂
