Hello Friends! Welcome to DAY ONE of my forth 30 Day Coloring Challenge!! Oh my!
I am so happy to see you all again and a warm welcome to our new friends that have joined us for “The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge”. Hopefully I will keep you motivated with some new techniques or different ways to look at your coloring during these 30 days. Either way I think we will have a good time!
Today I am using some regular markers with a brush tip from Memento. You can use sharpies, crayola, etc. Shading is added with distress ink and a dauber. More details are in the video.
To watch the video in HD or larger click here.
Using several circle die cuts I wanted to create a kaleidoscope ….sorta with layers and dimension. I needed multiple images so these dies called, “Leafy Greenery” were perfect. The butterfly punch is an oldie but a goodie. The “Friend” word die is from Mama Elephant and it’s a beauty 🙂

Fortunately ”The 30 Day Coloring Challenge” has grown since the first coloring challenge because of YOU. If you want to share the logo when writing your blog post or on Facebook etc. that would be lovely.
Thanks for your enthusiasm for the challenge and I hope you know that I am just as excited as you are. Have a great day and see you tomorrow for a big blog hop. Hugs, Kathy

The Fun Begins !! I loved your card ,its very interesting..coloring as well as design !
Thanks so much Pooja..it’s not my typical kinda card. I really try hard to think out of the box for the first day and put a lot of pressure on myself. ;|
Yay it’s Monday 1st February!! Bring it on. This is a gorgeous card. Love the kaleidoscope idea. Can’t get to play until I’ve done a tonne of housework, but once that’s over, I’ll be colouring to my heart’s content. Love it!! Xx
Gorgeous card! You have set the bar high, Kathy. Really looking forward to this. And my daughter is also joining in this time round!
What fun you can have coloring with your daughter. You can motivate each other to take time for yourselves. 🙂
I love the effect of the kaleidoscope, it adds so much interest to the card as you can tuck the leaves in between. So pretty with the little purple butterflies too. Wonderful start to the challenge Kathy, thank you for the great first day inspiration, Lisa xx
HAPPY 1st Day of the FABULOUS 4th 30 Day Coloring Challenge Kathy 🙂
I’m SO EXCITED for YOU and for US too!!!
LOVE the design of your inky card, great dimension and detail, heading off to watch the video now!!!
Here is the link to my post sharing about Day One and the start of the challenge http://tracyscraftyadventures.blogspot.com.au/2016/02/kathys-4th-30-day-coloring-challenge.html
GREAT video and colour technique!!!
LOVE the design of your card Kathy … is it OK to make one like yours using goodies from my stash?
Of course it’s OK! Kathy’s challenge is all about getting inspired to craft/colour using whatever supplies you have on hand! Just have fun!
Marianne x
You go for it! That’s the whole idea. Use your stash and make it your own. Have fun. 🙂
Such a fab way to start your new 30D colouring challenge, Kathy!
Love the kaleidoscope look, but I’m afraid it’s rather hard to put through the post.
On the other hand, you could frame it and give it as a gift.
Marianne x
Oh wow Kathy! What a fabulous design! You have amazed me again with a brilliant card. Great tip for colouring the leaf edges from the back!
I find I can’t glue layers of the same die cut thing while they are still in place in the cardstock/foam with Glossy Accents unless I separate it from the waste right away. The Glossy Accents sneaks out here and there and glues the die cut to the waste cardstock. Perhaps that’s what happened to your foam “friend”? Love that stuff!
my memento markers are badly neglected – thanks for the idea of shading them with distress – fabulous card
What a fabulous idea (kaleidoscope technique) and a lovely card!

Kathy what a great way to start the 30 day color challenge. Stunning card I love it! Looking forward to the next 28 days. Is this actually a 29 day challenge with being Feb and a leap year? ; )
Yes it is technically a 29 day challenge this time but hopefully you be motivated to continue finding time for yourself. 🙂
Kathy, I have been (im)patiently awaiting the start of your new challenge. Beautiful, creative card to start the 30 days! Love the incredible dimension! Thank you for the inspiration.
You’re setting the bar really high for day one Kathy!! 😀
I LOVE your card! Super pretty and dimensional! TFS
Off to a great start! Jo x
Beautiful card! When I used foam I had the same problem then realized that it happened most when I ran it through then reversed the direction backward. That’s when I decided it would be better to use a shim and never cut twice. Now it works like a charm. Loved the see down into effect and think this would be really great for a little kid card, too.
I will try your tip. Thanks for sharing and hopefully next time the foam what get me annoyed. Love your idea for a kid especially if there was a cut critter or monster down the “hole”. 🙂
Gorgeous card!
Oooh, I love what you did with this card! Thanks for the inspiration.
I’ve never used markers to color like this, thanks for sharing this great, quick, coloring method! Your card is beautiful 🙂
I really enjoyed this video. I’m happy to see that you like the finger dauber’s, I love using them too. I feel the control as well.
Really lovely card, and thank you for using markers that aren’t Copic lol.

I LOVE this card Kathy–you make it look so simple but the design is absolutely stunning!
Thanks for the video too, I love all the little details you did. I am of course participating in your challenge again–have a few stamped images, am going to make some “card fronts” for coloring as I want to participate in the challenge that Jennifer and Sandy have mentioned. I have also started Bible journaling, so will do some of that for you challenge. I adore your challenges and it has motivated me to color almost every day, even without the challenge. Thanks.
WOW, you made my day. I love hearing that my challenges have encouraged people to color everyday on their own. Enjoy! 🙂
Could you link to some samples of your Bible journaling? Sounds interesting.

Holy dimension!! I love the kaleidoscope effect and the leaf dies are definitely going on my wish list. I think I’m the only card maker alive who’s tired of butterflies, but they work nicely here. I am really putting myself out there posting on Instagram the stuff I am going to color. My friends are gonna think I’m a dork! I don’t really make many of my crafts public and I am far from being an artist. I am excited about it, though. I am currently doing the Copic for carmakers online class and signed up for the watercolor one yesterday. Thank you the great inspiration! Your work is stunning!!!
BRILLIANT, Kathy.
Don’t think I have been so excited about a card in, well, forever! As I gazed at it longingly, I felt transported to the tropics. As soon as I have my hand back I will be CASEing this. Drooling all over the place.

This is such a fun challenge and I hope this gives me the push I need to colour more. Thanks for this Kathy.
Hi
Loved it! Just one question, what ink colors did you use for the sky background? It looks great but I didn’t see it on the video.
Thanks for the challenge!
Hi Claudia, I used chipped sapphire and broken china distress ink. Thanks 🙂
Thanks for letting us link up to the challenge.
Just looked at the first days card, love this idea of adding shadow with the distress ink and blending. Have to give it a go, beautiful card. Finally back from holiday and no internet, so much to catch up on.

Kathy, thank you for this wonderful challenge, I am competing with myself, trying to improve my coloring while I challenge myself everyday to do some coloring. Sharing my work here , regardless of the outcome. I hope I am not the only one who is adding too many cards 😉
