Hello Friends, How has your weekend been so far?? Did you do any doodling?? I have been a “doodler” all my life especially when I am on the telephone. One of my regular doodles was playing with a sequence of lines as you see below on the cupcake (that I added to the stamped image).

| A few months ago I took the “Intermediate Copic Certification” the best part of the class was I sat right next to the most amazing and talented lady. You might know her?? Her name is Suzanne McNeil and she introduced me to “Zentangle”!! Suzanne is also the author of so many books on such a range of subjects it’s really amazing and she’s really amazing! During the class Suzanne was drawing and applying Zentangles to her drawings…..talk about fun to watch her in action!! Once you have organized your doodles in a Zentange way I think you will look at stamps in a different way. I used this Penny Black butterfly stamp as a starting point to “Zentangle”.

| If you want to try this zentangling on a stamped image….. look for a stamp with open spaces, stamp in a light ink such as Spun Sugar distress ink. Trace over the lines, change them up if you want and fill the spaces with Zentangles. On my butterfly I rounded the wings and adapted the lines as I was creating my design. The great thing about using a light ink is you won’t see the lines but, they will guide you. Kathy, I just started Zentangles, but have just done them in my junk journal. Love the idea of doing it in a line drawn stamp. Thanks for the inspiration. Love your butterfly.

Your cupcake and butterfly look great, Kathy! I do something similar, but only on the edges of my notebook – never thought of using it inside a stamped image. I’d love to see more of your stamped images.

I never thought of incorporating my doodles in any projects until I discovered Zentangle a couple years ago…still haven’t done it yet. Your card with just the hint of doodling is so inspiring, you may have given me the push I need to doodle with purpose! That butterfly looks so fabulous too! Zentangle has always looked so complicated to me, but doing in inside a stamp looks do-able!
Cute cupcake, I do free hand doodling, have done it since I was a little girl. The Zentangle looks interesting inside a stamped image.

I love the unique look you’ve given your cupcake with the doodling. Did you do the doodling then diecut your bottom of cupcake? Your butterfly is very beautiful too, great artwork.
When I was going to school I used to doodle when I didn’t want to pay attention in class. Now I see that a name/label has been given to what I grew up doing, doodling, now being called Zentangle. I’ve also noticed that Zentangle classes are being offered to learn how to doodle, as well as classes to be certified to teach “Zentangle”. Please don’t get me wrong, this is wonderful art. I just don’t think we all need to be certified to teach doodling. When I first started my blog I did a post back in May 17, 2010 about this and posted a photo of one of my doodlings. Feel free to check it out. This doodling/Zentangling was done only in ink, nothing pre-drawn, just doodling, after all isn’t that what doodling is? It is very relaxing and Zen-like, I guess that’s where the new name came from. And it’s a wonderful surprise to see what has developed when you decide to stop and take a look at what has transpired.
Your doodling is gorgeous, I love how you incorporate it into your card making. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art and thanks for letting me voice my opinion.

I love Zentangle and your doodles fit this technique marvelously.
Doodling & I don’t really mix so I look at Zentangle with utter amazement. I love the colours on this & how they provide such a super foil for the cupcake. Very unusual & pretty card, especially for a tomboy.
