Hello Friends, It’s me again 🙂 Today is about a coloring a bold dark background. It’s a great way to give some drama and impact to your cards.
My goal was to make a few different backgrounds for you to see with other colors but, time just slipped away and unexpected things came up. Two days ago I used this same flower on my window card here. I have so many awesome flower stamps but, had this stamped background on hand called, “Winter Blooms” and I love how it’s so easy to color especially for watercolors.
I love stacking and stacking a die cut word. This thanks is from Lawn Fawn called, “Scripty Thanks” and such a great value. After adding some white dots with a gel pen I used the white puffy paint in the flowers centers.
If you saw this video …. I used the same technique on the flowers but, I chose not to blend the colors and just let the color sit and dry. The background was watercolored with some distress ink and once dry I outlined the flowers with some grey markers.
I wanted to be able to control the colors on the leaves because the flowers are more free form so I decided to color the leaves with Copic markers once my watercolor paper was dry. That’s if for today. I wanted to thank those of you who stopped by the Mama Elephant Blog during my giveaway …. you guys rock. Thanks and more thanks for your visit. “See” you tomorrow. Hugs, Kathy

love the water colored flowers, the way that the color blooms, spreads and feathers. The dark background really makes them pop. I really like to layer up my word dies too and have the top layer be cut out of the card. Guess the short version is this card hits all my buttons!

Hi Kathy! This card is just beautiful! I wish I just had time this week to follow exactly what you were doing. LOL I either had to utilize my time for a specific project or just didn’t have the time to invest. Glad I’ve played tho, as much as I can. Thanks for all of your fabulous inspiration! I’ve got to try cuting a word die in the middle of a colored piece!

Well done! I especially love the “hidden” sentiment. Such a cool sentiment. Definitely want to try that.

Wow.. This is just gorgeous! I love how the “thanks” just pops out of the card, like it’s being pushed through. I know I have seen that on other cards, but for some reason, it just looks really neat on this one. Like those little toys, where the kids always smush their faces to the back, and the pins push out through the front. (did that make sense?).. hehe That’s what it reminds me of, so neat. Thank you for sharing.

I love, love, LOVE everything! Fantastic colors. 🙂

Love the colors on this one! But only you can make not fully blending the colors on the flowers look like it was meant to be NOT completely colored! Will have to try this but I can bet it will not look finished like yours! Lol
