Hello Friends, How are you on this third day of the challenge. If you are new to my blog you can read about the coloring challenge here.
Today I am absolutely thrilled to be the guest designer for this month’s Virginia’s View Challenge Blog.
Virginia & I go way back to our early stamping days. It was the love for Hero Arts stamps that brought us together and we met in the Hero Arts Flickr group . I always admired Virginia’s creative and whimsical style and her big heart. All of these characteristics are reflected on her blog.
Hero Arts was my first stamp crush so there was no question what the perfect stamps were for me to use today for The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge & Virginia’s View Challenge.
If you want to watch the video in HD or larger click here.
The great thing about Hero Arts layering bird is you don’t need to color if that’s not your thing. Naturally I opted for the open line part of the stamps so I could color! In the video I touch on stamping another beak to form a mouth on the bird so he can hold one of the holly berries. The Holly is seriously my all time favorite holly in the stamping world. The background is called “Waves” but, in my opinion great for any season.
The “Thanks” die cut was laying on my desk top so it became the perfect backdrop for the holly.
Stamping in a “Smoke” ink and coloring the background is a quick way to create a unique background …..
…. after you add texture with a damp rag and “Various Ink“. In the video I did the same thing on parts of the bird.
Thank you so much , my dear friend Virginia, for inviting me to take part in your challenge.

Kathy, I was thrilled to see this bird as today’s card, I bought a ton of stamps to get ready for the October challenge back when you first hinted that we were going to have another one, and this was one of them. You, Of course the master of coloring, did such an AMAZING job !!! I love how you can layer this little guy. I am doing Halloween cards now also with some really cool Tim Holtz stamps, this is so much fun and a much needed “stress” reliever. I Thank you so much for doing this again for all of us, it is very, very much APPRECIATED. !!! Have a great weekend Kathy, and Happy coloring everyone.

Those are gorgeous! I love the idea of these stamped backgrounds in light ink pallets! Thank your for the real time type tips as you work! Little things like holding the markers a little higher and using a lighter grip when “sweeping” “flicking” are great reminders for us Copic Newbies! Pretty pretty cards for your friends Challenge!

Loved watching your coloring video for the bird and holly. All those techniques you use make for absolutely gorgeous elements on your cards. The details like the Gossy Accents on the the berries, the lower beak on the bird, the dimensional wing and the rock candy stickles on the holly make the card extraordinary.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks for absorbing all those extra touches. They do make a difference. Relax with color. 🙂

Heather B. says
Love your new use for the Lg Hero Arts Background Stamp from water to snow. The extra touches for the beak addition adds so much. As an aside I love your colored Crazy Birds that you used as a reference. I’m moving from doing monochromatic type birds into experimenting with mult-colored birds. Monday my Crazy Accessories should be coming– can’t wait to play some more.
Heather B. says
Oh- yes… I also loved your sample color palate reminders— with design element and then color blocked grids.
