Hello Friends, How are you? Have you heard of Splitcoaststampers? It’s their Falliday Fest and I was invited to share a technique today on their forum. The technique is my “bleed through” technique created from a coloring book that I came up with for the last coloring challenge. (you can check it out here) Shall we get started on my newest bleed through?
If you want to see the step by step photos at Splitcoaststampers you can click here … and I have a video for you… check the video here.
If you get my posts in your inbox … click on the title to go to the blog post if my video is all wonky. Sometimes the video covers up most of my post and photos.
I hope you give this a try when you are coloring in your coloring book it really is easy and fun.
This is the first card created from The Pocket Post coloring book page. One of my all time favorite die cuts is this “Smile” die from Simon Says Stamp.
Ta Da! This is the card created from the “bleed through” technique. Yes I need a better name I totally agree. The background of the “Smile” die was texturized with some copic blending solution.
I love a two for one with ease. Fun foam gives the die cut the dimension I always crave and just a few dots with the good ole’ gel pen.
Next time I might rip the page out instead.
My biggest tip is to NOT move the page while coloring and only peek near the end. If you see some blank areas you can add more coloring.
FANTASTIC idea Kathy! I do hate to waste even a “scrap paper” if it looks pretty.
Thanks for the idea. I haven’t done much coloring because I hate
that the backside of the page is colored and I’ve lost that page.
Using this technique I still get two pages – even though they may
be close to being the same.
Love It!
Two for One is the Best!
Now I know to add a paperclip to my “blotter” page. You are the only one who I have seen recommend this, and it really helps with keeping the color in the lines. But I have been using the same piece of paper for multiple projects and have not been careful at all about holding it still! I am a big fan of using ‘waste’ paper. It sometimes makes beautiful die-cut flowers! (hate to waste all those beautiful colors!) PS I made my family valentines last year from the coloring book they gave me for Christmas!! My grand-girl and my mom got hearts cut from the page we worked on together at my mom’s house when we took her home.
I’m getting ready for 30 day challenge…who am I kidding I’ve been ready since the last one ended! Love them
Hmmm the Copic Copy instead of the bleed through? Now that we don’t use carbon copy anymore. I’m surprised how little your Copics bled on the colouring book paper! I knew they would bleed through but I expected the paper to be lousy for my Copics. I’ve been sticking to pencil crayons in my colouring books except for one specifically made for watercolours.
Nothing short of fabulous. Another great “technique”….using the bleed through. It really is beautiful. Thanks for giving us this very cool design idea.
Kathy, you are so clever!!! I do this but never thought of using it! Great inspiration and will use it!
LOVE LOVE and it is a must have for my craft room that hugh clip. Great card and idea Kathy and thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing video’s. Normally if a site doesn’t have a video I just glance and go to the next. Yes I am guilty. I stay way to busy during my day and night that reading for me just seems to not be in the cards, so thanks can’t wait for the next 30 day challenge your the best dear.
Wow totally stunning and thank you for sharing this xx
I love this idea! Your cards are fantastic!! Brilliant colors and fun cards! TFS!
How fun! I always think of bleed-through as annoying, not as another possible project.
Great idea–I need to start using more of my color pages and do this technique! Thanks!
Ha! I saw this in my inbox this morning and thought, “that looks like something Kathy would do!”…I guess I was right! 🙂
Great idea!
What an astounding idea! You have the best ideas, Kathy and I will be doing this at my craft night this week. I have already picked my pattern and I am getting all my supplies together, I am really excited.
You are brilliant! I can’t wait to try this technique.
I have a coloring book that says to put something in between the pages because this will happen and it has happened to me. My coloring book is twice the size of yours and to big to put on a card. What do I do then? In fact, only a few of my coloring books have the pages bled through and I do use makers, colored pencils, chalk pencils and crayons. I’ve never used water colors because I am usually somewhere like at a doctors where I can’t use water colors. Would it do the same with water colors? I’ll have to try this when I color and see what happens. What a great idea and leave it to you to think of it. I’m not surprised though. I wish I had thought of it.
Very coool as always!
This is such a fun technique. Thanks for sharing the idea.
wow I love the added details with the white and black pens. Really makes a difference. Both cards are fabulous.
Such great cards Kathy, looking forward to Nov.’s challenge!
Amazing cards – thanks so much for sharing this technique. I have copics that just sit in the box and I really need to use them! This seems like a great way to start! Thank you Kathy!!!
Leave it to you, you think of everything!!!!! Great idea Kathy! (And your cards are beautiful as always!!)
You can put a piece of left over crd stock under the page you are coloring, than there will be no bleed through. Pleawwe check out www dot paper wishes dot com for coloring books that are made for cards. They are lovely. They also have other card making supplies.
Kathleen
sorry for the typos. There isn’t a way to fix them here.
Lovely card. The vellum just makes the card. Beautiful copic coloring.
Your cards are always so beautiful, thank you so much for the inspiration❣
Wow! Just Wow! I’m amazed by your cards!
Great Job-beautiful
Thanks for showing this! Isn’t it funny how the bleed through pages or the scrap/ extra paper you might wipe off brushes with or test colors on, they end up looking cooler sometimes than the original project you started on. Both your projects here look great!
Gosh, you are so creative! I love Copics and will be trying some of the coloring ideas you offered. Thanks!
You must be the Copic Queen!
Great to see you visit this technique…. your bleed through is great – when I tried this on the colouring challenge, mine didn’t come through as much – the paper was quite thick in my book, and when I tried to saturate it, it ended up pilling a bit. So it’s lovely to see it in action again Kathy! I think geometric prints are great to colour, I love the uniformity of them that takes the pressure out of deciding what colour goes where 🙂
