Hello Friends! It’s Day 2. of the coloring challenge which brings a big blog hop and giveaways!! Woo Hoo! I have assembled everyone & every company that has been a part of “The Coloring Challenge Road Trip” so far to celebrate the 10th “The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge”. Not only am I super excited but, really grateful because I know how busy everyone is and it really means a lot to me to have their support. #supergrateful!

One thing I have found heard from you all during the coloring challenges is that many of you enjoy having “permission” not to make a card but, to color just for the love of coloring. Life gets in the way a-lot and my motto is to try and find that magical 10 minutes a day for you to decompress and destress. So with that said one has to practice what they preach right? These challenge are authentic for me and I don’t work ahead so can you imagine that I am hosting this blog hop and I only have three things colored! EEKKKK!
For today’s post I am focusing on creating a unique art piece that will be frame worthy. I will be honest this takes time but, it will be worth it. So instead of coloring an entire project I will be coloring a few things and this is something I encourage you to try during the challenge. When you only have 10 minutes you might be able to color one petal or one flower but, that is better than nothing!
I spent a well over an hour just stamping my project using five different companies and I feel like that’s a great accomplishment. In my post for Day 1. I talked about creating some art pieces during these next 30 days so I thought I would share a way to use all of those beautiful stamps that we collect. Mix them up and stamp different companies together. You will have such a unique piece that will be beautiful colored in time lol. Watch my video in HD here.
If you stamped a bunch of images ahead of time that’s awesome and kudos to you. After those are colored maybe you will rip a page out of a coloring book or stamp something to frame for your wall.
The fruit in this arrangement gives it some extra pizzaz and the butterflies make everything better and flowers … always flowers!
I hope that you think my project is blog hop worthy lol. The time was put in and it took hours but, right now it’s the subtle things that don’t wow you. Just wait until you see what everyone else is doing for the hop I know they will knock your socks off.
In the video you can watch how this evolved. As I remove the masking paper of each individual flower I added some color with my markers so it’s easy to distinguish later whats a leaf or petal or background. This isn’t necessary but, saves you time in the long run. I started with 110lb. neenah 8.5 x 11 and stamped everything with Memento. After stamping I trimmed this down to 8 x 9 . There was no plan and I was just flying with it hoping all the stamps would look good together. Tim Holtz stamp platform made this possible and with ease. I purchased the travel one but, now I see the value with the larger one. Stamps used to create this were Gina K. Designs, (this and this) , Mama Elephant, Simon Says Stamp, WPlus9 and Honey Bee stamps. Whew!

Your piece of art is amazing Kathy but I don’t think I am up to that yet, need to keep it simple to start with lol!!
Wow, you have made some gorgeous art by mixing sets! I have done that on a smaller scale; adding leaves, a background or small elements from one set to another, but this is really a wonderful new design idea.
I love your stamping!! I have a MISTI, but I don’t use it that much. Trying something like this would be a good use for it.

I definitely would try to create a piece of art… I have thought about it before but not done it yet. I have some floral sets that I really adore. Love the idea of mixing sets too!
Wow what an amazing piece of art you’re creating. I feel a little too intimidated to try something on that scale at the moment. I am only just starting to colour again after a very long break. I’m happy with my small images so far and will enjoy colouring them over the 30 days. I would like to tackle a project like yours when I’m more practised. Thanks for another day of inspiration <3

I like the idea of creating a larger piece and giving yourself permission to not finish in one sitting. So often we force ourselves to get it done when a step back and a pause may be just the thing. Planning for that at the beginning of a project is such a liberating idea!

Again, this is going to be incredible. What a great idea to mix up the stamp sets, and get more use from the stamps. I also love how you just do your own thing with the colouring yet it all works! I have already completed my card for today but I will be looking through my stamps tomorrow to see what I can use together! Roll on Day 3!

Wow Kathy this is really remarkable! For a 30day last year I colored a large Digi image of dogwoods by Powerpoppy and I had to frame it I was so pleased. I’ve really thought about doing another ‘frameworthy’ piece and the time and effort to actually create my own image from smaller stamps like you have here looks really worth it!! Wow – that is a beautiful page! I have lots of stamps from different companies too and this is exactly what I plan to do all summer. Great idea to make them into framed works of art. WoW this is a lot of fantastic work !!! I don’t mind masking a lot to create scenes, I usually do multiple copies since everything is in place and thanks to the miraculous misti it’s a breeze ! But I don’t usually mix companies and it’s also on a card size scale …

I would love to create an art piece, and you’ve given me inspiration. The idea of combining products is intriguing. I love coloring and I’m trying to get better at it. I have a few sets of Tombow markers and I’m enjoying them, particularly on Bristol paper, but I’ve never been able to justify the investment in Copics. Next step – watercoloring. I really want to get better at that.
You definitely could do this with other markers – like your Tombows! I just have the Copics so I’m using them! Happy coloring!
WOW, if love to try a project like this, I will try during these 30 days but it will not look anywhere near as good as that, you are aware of that aren’t you. Well looks like I’m off to sort through my little stash to see what I can offer. Very helpful tips, adding just bits of color and using the masks. Sometimes I can’t tell what is what on an image and this will definitely help. I would try this on a smaller scale.
I’d try this but with less detail than you’ve done! Yours is wonderful but looks too difficult for me. Thanks for the tip about coloring the image before removing all of the masking. Seems like that would really help to keep track of where one ends and the next begins.
These fruit and floral wreaths reminded me of Della Robbia Wreaths which I’ve always loved but never thought to create and color myself. Thanks for the permission to design my own ‘work of heart!’

From a “not a colorer” I’m giving your challenge a try this year in one of the busiest months of my life. So won’t be trying a big project now. This is just for play, trying new things, and stress relief
I created an art journal page, I liked so well, that I framed it in a small frame I had. I’ve been thinking I should created something in watercolor or colored pencil and do the same. You’ve probably inspired me to get started ’cause it looks like so much fun!
You are blowing me away, girl! I’m not sure if I’m ready for such a stamping extravaganza yet, but you sure make it tempting, I would definitely want a Tim Holtz stamping platform first… Btw, your fruit makes me hungry.

Your floral wreath is stunning, and makes all the masking soooo worth it! I love the idea of working on one or a few coloring pieces rather than a whole project. I plan to color up the Mega Succulent from Altenew (thank YOU for the videos on that one!) and a page of stamped flowers that have been sitting around my craft room begging for color. Love the fact that you suggested we just color for 10 minutes a day. I don’t know if I can because once I start I find it is hard to stop. I just made a card for a dear old friend today and I had done some coloring of an old barn. So I used it and was so pleased that it was lying there waiting for me to make something special with it for a special person. Thanks for the encouragement that you give us. I do like to be able to color whenever so doing something on the go really appeals to me. Love all the art work that you do and the time that you take to show us great ideas!

Love this idea! I think it’s actually great if you’re busy because you just do what you can each day and still have a sense of accomplishment even if you added one leaf. It’ll probably take me a few days to choose which stamps to use (I’m decisive that way XD) but definitely up for the challenge 🙂

I am so inspired. I want to do this. I love it and want to make one to frame for my home. Masking can be a challenge in itself. Nice to know that you can fudge a little by not cutting everything out. This was absolutely beautiful coming together as it did. I need to start on a much smaller scale though since I am so new to this but I am going to try! Thanks for all your instructions and inspiration.
Wow, like so many others, I am in awe. I never thought of taking so many stamp sets and making such a big collage. Maybe this will help me look at my stamp sets differently. Shading is my struggle – I get so intimidated by it but I like that you don’t worry about where the light is coming from – it takes off some of the pressure.

Your art piece is so lovely and I appreciate your video, because I am a little afraid of masking. It looks intimidating and time consuming to me. However, I would love to try making something like this, on a smaller scale.
At this moment I prefer to follow with my little pieces of stamps because my tecnic is very basic !! But in the future I think it is a great idea to mix stamps ansd have a beautiful cardl like your.
I definitely want to do some art pieces; I’ve done some larger digi stamps before but never really set out to colour something with the intention of framing it. I do worry that Copics aren’t lightfast though – I wonder how long a Copic work would survive exposed to light all the time…
Honestly even with your great encouragement to colour I think I need some more practice before trying something like it. But thanks for a wonderful and pretty inspirational piece to use a reference!

I love the idea of stamping from different companies. It does give a unique look. Each company has a different look to their stamps made by different artists. Putting them all together will make some stamps stand out more than others, some stamps will look better in the background and others up front and center. I like the idea and I will be trying it. Thanks for the idea and giveaways.

I would love to try something like this myself, but for now I’ll need to hold off for a while, as I have loads of cards and smaller projects to work on. Beautiful work! Truthfully I have only done masking in classes, not on my own. But it is a great idea to create something simple or complex. I think i will try this! I am on vacation from the 6th through the 11th on the beach at St. Simon’s Island in Georgia. I will have plenty of coloring time, so I need to get out my stamps and masking paper!

What a lovely art piece, Kathy! I don’t think my coloring abilities are up to this level yet but I do love coloring cards. I make & mail about 150 cards each year so do a lot of coloring. I need to branch
out & learn how to add more shading & layering in my coloring.

What a beautiful picture! I always thought it would be so much fun to take a large poster board and stamp lots of the Lawn Fawn stamps creating a “Lawn Fawn World” since they have so many great scene building sets. I think it would look so cool in my craft room! Thank you for the inspiration!

Another gorgeous piece of art Kathy! Love it! I do hope to do some of that creating fun art pieces for my home. I also enjoy doing coloring book coloring once in a while, takes many days to do one page but at least I do it! I just finished a Kaiser color card–found them on clearance and purchased all they had. The color lines are very fine and detailed, I’m send my brother one for his Birthday and started working on a bicycle theme card for my sis’s retirement. Because of the great detail, I’m using colored ink pens and wearing stronger reading glasses. Your coloring challenges are terrific!

Oh Wow!! Amazing combination of different stamp companies! I have to be honest…I don’t think I have the patience to make & color such a large creation as this plus I’m not that great a colorer! However, you do an awesome job of it!! Your shading & highlighting and color combinations are always fantastic! I do love coloring smaller objects on greeting cards….it is truly relaxing & fun. I love your coloring challenge. It makes me color more and practice how to blend and use differrent mediums. I participated last year but was not able to finish the entire challenge. Then you had another one last January of this year and promise myself i will participate for the whole challenge but something came up. I would try this technique but instead of fruit I’d put in critters.
I do mix stamp sets, but mostly on cards. I have done a couple 3D things on 5×7 canvases and that was with coloring then cutting out images. I am really trying to get better at watercoloring and would LOVE to win one of your giveaways. Thanks for offering a chance at them.

That’s such a great idea, I’m a crafting newbie so I don’t have anything stashed but I would definitely try this if I did. Maybe further along when I get a big collection. For now I have to just draw things by hand or use coloring books

This is a great idea and a beautiful example that you have given us. I sometimes use more than one stamp set from the same company, but I don’t think about mixing stamp companies. I will have to give this a try!
The piece you are working on is beautiful. Can’t wait to see the whole thing done. On a different note, I am glad that making a card is not mandatory. I will probably start by coloring pages from a coloring book and then convert those into cards at some point.

No Kathy, I don’t think I’ll be going for a masked work of art… I recently attempted a masked scene and after 6 failed attempts I realized I was trying something too complicated for my first go. I will possibly frame something from this challenge though as I hope to produce a no-line stamped painting worthy of a frame 😉

But my crew here have chosen a page from a coloring book to color throughout the challenge (if they don’t feel like stamping some images). Love the composition of what you’ve done so far on your project, Kathy. I look forward to seeing your progress. I haven’t thought about doing something like this, but I do like the idea. I think maybe I will try it in the future. The scary part for me would be the thought of messing up when I am well into it and have invested many hours.
Every year I say I am going to do this but I never do, but this year I am going to give it a try. I am not good at it at all, but I think I could get better if I practiced. You make it easy… just 10 minutes a day. I just have to learn to put a project aside to work on gradually. i always want to finish.

I have been thinking about making some art for my kitchen for a few years now. I love tea pots, tea cups, herbs, and flowers. The pieces that you have framed in the past have helped give me ideas. This work that you did today is really amazing. I really want this coloring challenge to help get me ready for this kind of piece. This is drop dead gorgeous! I”m in love with it. You are so encouraging and I think if I start to think about this step by step, using the tips (like the one about coloring the individual items lightly as you take off the masks and coloring the background first) really help me decide how to go about this. I often mix stamp sets but don’t usually do much masking. Your results are gorgeous but not sure I would have the time and patience for this complex technique. I would probably stamp the base flowers and then add fussy cut stamped images over it to fill in. Thanks for always being such an inspiration

Kathy, as always, your colouring is astounding! The time spent just preparing the piece to be coloured is beyond my capacity. As I have a disability I have limited time and capacity for crafting so I could not undertake a work like this. But I love crafting, unfortunately I can’t say it is cheaper than therapy!

Oh I can totally see this in a frame!! I LOVE the coloring of the pear!! And I am one of those that just likes that I have permission to color something and NOT make a card. Then I use these colored somethings in the future for challenges!!
I did something like this during the last coloring challenge when I made a floral heart…it was so much fun! It kind of took the pressure off to finish in one day (I knew that would never happen – lol) and I always had something to work on during the week without stressing. I’m not confident enough in my skills yet to create an art piece, but I can totally see my daughter-in-law doing this. Her home is adorned with photos and paintings she’s created and she loves to color. I think your suggestion to just sit and color for 10 minutes a day is wonderful. I’ve been playing with some simple watercoloring and find it so relaxing. Looking to join you in this challenge.
I mix and match everything from products to brands to create cards. I like creating scenes along with playing with all the new products out there. But I have yet to master the pencil & markers and color layering so it looks good. I would love the chance to get more supplies to work with and practice!

I just got a coloring book from a tag sale in our community. My daughter said it is hers but after coloring one butterfly, she said the next one is mine. I was delighted. When it is done I hope it is frame worthy like yours.

I would definitely try something like this, knowing I wouldn’t have to completely finish it in a day. I love that I can just color freely for this challenge and not have to necessarily complete a card. It’s so much less stressful. Sometimes I just want to color, other times I want to design cards.

Gorgeous! If you don’t have a frame for that yet, I have the perfect one that’s just waiting!! 😉 I love that suede-textured background. And I love that you used a combination of companies. So often, especially during blog hops and YouTube videos, cardmakers seem to limit themselves to just one brand. For someone like me, who doesn’t even want to have a blog, all my stuff is a mash up & I can’t imagine limiting myself. But even I have not combined so many different companies, since I have been limiting myself to A2 type sizes or just a bit bigger. Like you said, we all have a collection of gorgeous stamps that would work great together. Thanks for taking a step out of the norm! So inspiring!

Beautiful artwork! I love the floral and fruit designed image and maybe someday I’ll be able to work up to something like this. For now, I’ll stick to my coloring book images. I just recently bought some Tombow markers so I’m going to try them out with this 30 Day Coloring Challenge. Thanks for the encouragement!

First of all, congrats on your big “ten oh” (10) coloring challenge. I have done your challenges in the past. Unfortunately, this one is while I am dealing with a death in the immediate family, and I am just, for lack of a better word, nonfunctional. I wish I could color, for escape, but I just can’t do it right now, and that makes me even more sad. On a positive note, (1) this blog hop IS enjoyable to see others inspiration and (2) I love your idea of combining a plethora of stamps for your project! And lastly, a huge thank you for these challenges, as they (normally) are fun, good practice, and a nice stress reliever…..and I realize just how much work YOU must do “behind the scenes” to make these possible for me and all of your followers! ❤

Looks great! In general, I would try something like this; however, I won’t be doing it any time soon unless it is a gift. Unfortunately, the place I moved to doesn’t have many walls and I am currently unable to put up the art I already have. 🙁
Wow Kathy, all that stamping is so impressive, I have a hard time masking correctly to get the images right… yikes! Your coloring is amazing as always, I LOVE all the flowers you color and that apple looks so real. I have only started colouring this year and lucky for me I was watching a Jennifer Macguire video and she suggested to watch your work. You make it look so easy and colour mashing has really helped my attempts become something I am proud to show off. Love watching you create such wonderful pieces.

I LOVE the idea of this, but don’t know that I have the skills to pull it off. I did watch the video you shared about using the Sharpies and Bics and have thought seriously about taking a coloring book page and framing it as art. Haven’t selected a page yet, though. I’m still a very beginner Copic user and thought I might practice my coloring for this challenge. But really, I have a feeling I’m going to be all over the place. Great project! Thanks for sharing!. I already mix stamp sets with nearly every card I make because I only started building my collection a couple years ago, so my variety isn’t what most card makers might be used to. That said, I’m most likely to use scene builders from one maker, characters or images from another maker and sentiments from another stamp maker. I’m still working on my color skills and find Copics to be the most challenging. I always have bleeding outside the lines and it gets a little frustrating sometimes. But I’m patient and still learning!

Thanks so much for coordinating this. It does help me to set aside the time to color. I dont think I’ve run across a card you have colored that I haven’t been inspired by. You always have a new technique to share or a good reason to color – meaning even your sharpies will work. This go around I’m planning to try out new techniques to me. I’ll still have some quite just color time, but I really want to branch out.

I just found your blog yesterday, and Its really inspiring. I love coloring with Prismacolor pencils (hard to come by in the Netherlands), and just started with alcohol markers. I like small projects so I can see them finished quickly, but I also try larger ones. But you can see a difference in the progress I made in the meanwhile. I would love to use stamps, I love how you use them for cards and also larger projects. Can’t wait to see your project finished.

I love the idea of coloring something larger that I can frame, but I find coloring just cards so satisfying (probably because I have ADHD). I do enjoy masking – it can really help me stretch my stamps.

Not only would i try something like this – i do, all the time. most of my supplies have been given to me, and frankly, i’m not sure where they come from. so, there’s a butterfly from here and flowers from over there, and animal from yet another envelope. all over a background from an embossing folder someone gave me that i’ve colored/changed in some way/shape/form.

I love it already. I would love to try something like this and am afraid I’d bog down doing what you warn us against: don’t overthink it. I think the feeling of accomplishment would be huge so maybe I should try. If it looks lousy, flip it over and try it again. As Kathy says — it’s only paper — until she makes it art.

Kathy you a such an inspiration. I love getting new ideas and I’m going to try to do this later in the month for this challenge. I usually colour cards as I like to brighten someone’s day, but I do occasionally keep some of my own work for inspiration and to brighten my own day
I think I might enjoy trying this, but not until we are finished with selling/buying/moving, etc! I only kept out a few things to keep me sane for now (smile). I spent a few hours this afternoon working on cards for my grand-girls for their dance recital coming up. Thanks so much for keeping me on track.

Kathy- you are amazing! Fruit, flowers, and butterflies don’t spring first to mind as a combo, but when *you* do it, it makes perfect sense! I don’t know that I’m brave enough to have my coloring work stand alone on its own in a frame. BUT I’m up to a baby – step version… using a piece as a backdrop for a framed collage I’ve been noodling over as a present for my sister’s 50th. Thanks for the inspiration.

Wow Kathy, you have created a masterpiece there. I cant image doing it myself but I won’t say no never because sometimes inspiration can hit and maybe there will be something out there that gets me going and I will mix some stamp sets. If my granddaughter had her way I would be creating fairy, mermaid, unicorn scenes all over the place laced with lots of flowers and butterflies. Fingers crossed inspiration comes xxAileen

I would love to try something like this…but not during this challenge! LOL I have been crazy busy and this month is going to be even more hectic with company and travel…but I have every intention of participating every day of this challenge!!!
Not sure I have masking down to a good science yet, so not quite ready to tackle that big of a project. But I will try something a little smaller during this challenge for sure!!

This is a great idea! I seem to collect “Flowers and Nature” stamps, even though I seldom use this. I will give this a go.

This is the most amazing stamping I’ve ever seen and that’s not counting the magnificent coloring!!
I would like to try a big project like yours! However, I started out small by stamping individual things. Mostly flowers, so I could get pumped up & because some days I feel like using markers (my fav), colored pencils, watercolors, etc…and I wanted to have something I could complete in a short amount of time if need be.
I’ve been planning to stamp and color or use a picture from one of my coloring books and frame it. Actually I’ve been planning to make a gallery wall of things I’ve done. Now that I’m taking the challenge things will be coming along faster. Thank you!
I’ve seen your color challenge in the past and I have to join in on it this time around! I’m a beginner at the artistic coloring… but have been learning quick. I am not sure if I would be able to pull off a larger piece like this, with lots of stamp sets. BUT I am going to decorate my crafting space soon and maybe I could give it a try!
Oooh Kathy, this is TDF….but I don’t think I’m up to it…yet. Masking–yes! Combining sets–yes! but this level of complexity is probably still more aspirational than posssible–but I LOVE seeing it here!
No promises on how good it turns out, but I am going to work on creating some kind of bigger piece during the challenge.
Will I try that? Probably not. I’ll just admire yours!! I’m a bit of a mess.

YES, Kathy! I think you’re right about mixing & matching images that you have! WHAT A GORGEOUS PIECE you’ve created! The time it took to make this, paid off! I also LOVE the vibrancy of the Copic coloring! I LOVE how you created the stippling on the pear & lemon too! JUST BEAUTIFUL! AND the “new” technique you used to do the background, making it more like suede is NICE! 😉
I love drawing fruit and flowers, fruit has been my passion to paint for the last few years but now flowers are taking a center stage! You’ve done a beautiful job of shading this to look beautiful. this is definitely a more advanced coloring technique! i love stamping and making cards but i definitely don’t think i’m up for quite a big project like this. i do like mixing stamping companies though for some general coloring fun!
Nice mixing and matching! You really makes it work with the masking, which is something I’ve never done.
I honestly don’t have the patience to try something like this! But, I think that is because I feel like I need to complete it all in 1 sitting!

I’ve been having computer troubles so I might mot be able to type the letter after M unless spell check fixes it. I am so happy the Coloring Challenge is back on! I still love to color & have been doing a lot of it. Mom goes to a lot of therapy appointments & doctors and I color ip the waiting room. My problem is I’m a finisher. Once I start coloring something, I HAVE to finish because I just can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s done! LOL
Kathy this project is a WOW project!! I love to be challenged and yes I would try a project like this and I know it would take me a very long time. I think it would be fun to really practice on my coloring with something like this until I could get it right before it would be wall worthy. Love it!!! Thanks for the inspiration.
That is a piece of art! I’m not too sure if I would be able to finish a project like this. I usually start and don’t finish. It’s a bad habit of mine.

This is a fabulous idea, and one I’d never really thought about. I’ve created a few “scenes” for cards, but never thought about using stamps and other images to create a larger art piece. I think I will be giving this a try!

I prefer to work on individual pieces then arrange them with foam dots as I love the dimension. But I have tried a larger arrangement with masking before. It didn’t turn out well sadly. I tried to color yellow flowers on a navy blue background but the yellow let too much blue show through. I’ll try again with a different color combo.

I would love to try my hand at some colored pencil techniques. I only have a box of crayolas right now, but you have to start somewhere. I love how many resources and inspiration there are available now!
This piece is so beautiful!!!! Love it! I really like masking a lot, but I’m still totally a work in progress! I always tend to mix up what will be in front/back of the design DOH! I keep practicing though and lovely ladies LIKE YOU help with showing us the ropes!!

I am a little overwhelmed by the idea of doing a piece worth framing, but that would be a great challenge for me since I am already jumping in on social media even doing this challenge, so… WHY NOT?? 🙂

The worst part of taking up a craft or hobby is when you start to feel yourself losing interest. Right now I could use a new way to craft and this idea uses things I have already. Yes, I think this is something I would like to try.
I need to get better ink before I tried stamping and then coloring but it’s not something I have done before. I’ve seen a lot of videos about it but I honestly am intimidated and worried about getting discouraged. But that will get me nowhere so I just need to jump in and do it. Your project turned out so beautiful.

I love coloring, but I don’t think that I have the patience to stamp/mask an entire sheet. I prefer pre-printed coloring pages or books.
Hi. I only found out about this late last night and hurriedly coloured a whole page in my colouring book badly! Today after reading so many blogs – and after this amazing hop I am sure there will be many more – and watching videos I feel ready to slow down. I stamped 2 pages of regular cardstock and 1 page of watercolour paper with a variety of stamps – flowers, animals, people. I’m hoping to learn a lot about blending and shading to give my colouring depth.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who took their sweet time setting the stamping etc etc for a project. Makes me feel so much better! I’ve always complained how it takes me forever to finish a project lol. This looks like an interesting feat…I tried today, but got interrupted…I might make another attempt soon.
