Hello Friends, How are you this wintery cloudy day (if you are in the East Coast) I hope you have sunny skies instead of our weather? This sweet image from Waffle Flowers new release might shine a little sun your way. Welcome to the Waffle Flower New Release Blog Hop and Giveaway. Yes please!
The blog hop list is at the bottom of my post.
Waffle Flower’s 2018 December release is shaking things up with a super sweet and simple release. The Halftone Background stamp set features a gradient of dots that can be overlapped and stamped in two colors to create the look of a blended background. In this release you will also find the lovely Thinking of You stamp set featuring the same girl from our Always stamp set hugging the cutest cat ever. The Cookie Love Stamp Set (stamp, die, combo), illustrated by Big Bear and Bird, is perfect for anyone wanting to send some love or get a jump on their Valentine’s cards! And the 2×3 Lettuce stamp set (stamp, die, combo) offers a cute punny greeting for a friend.
For the past few months I have turned down lots of blog hops and I am jumping back in for a little bit. How could I say no to this stamp called, “Thinking of You “. Cats don’t capture my heart mostly because I am allergic but, I am in love with this image cat person or not.
When watercoloring I always do the face then the hair first. My distress ink was sitting on my desk so I decided to use them for the first part of my watercoloring.
Adding dark highlights to her hair always jazzes it up. (The photo above this photo is without the dark highlights) In case you are wondering what paper I am using this is it. Helen Dardik was one of the teachers this past weekend and she feels that paper is the most important thing when watercoloring especially for success. I totally agree with her and for Copic markers I have seen that your results will be better on 100lb paper.
Purrrfect colors for the cat … these distress ink colors that is. After this I grabbed my Tombow watercolors and finished her on the airplane on my way to LA for a painting class. (My preference for watercoloring on airplanes is Tombow because they are light and I don’t need to use a lot of water when using them.
The stamp was inked up first with the Fade Out Ink ( perfect for no line coloring) and for my second card with Amalgam Ink (perfect for copics or watercolor).
This sweet girl was painted on my way home from LA lol. The face and hair were completed in the hotel room and the rest on the airplane (and I might add I was in the middle seat!! omg!) Since this was stamped in black ink it screamed for a background and blue is always my go to.
You might wonder more about the airplane? If so … I was sitting next to two men and one of them slept the entire time .. yay … and the other one watched a movie the entire time and neither one of them paid me any attention … double yay. I always prefer to sit next to women and find it easier to get into my groove.
When I returned home I added dark highlights to her hair and layered both cards up with some foam tape and colored cardstock .
Which one is your favorite? For me it’s the no line coloring hands down. I think it lets the image shine.

Thank you for the tip on what watercolor paper you use! Mine always get warped and I wondered how you kept them so nice and smooth!
Sheri Kempke says
Love how you colored both of these! I am a cat lover, after our 4 indoor cats passed away, we decided no more indoor cats! God in His wisdom decided we were to become the caretakers of His Cat Garden. We have spayed and neutered 15 through the TNR program and continue to feed them, name them, watch them and love them. I love this stamp set and totally understand why you decided to participate in Nina’s blog host–her stamps are awesome!

Kathy, for me? The no-line one… but perhaps it is just that she has red hair? wink, wink!

I love this adorable image. The cat is such a cute figure.

I like both ways. I haven’t tried no line coloring yet, but I bought the ink…that’s a start. I like both types of coloring for different reasons. I have a feeling that I will like MY line coloring best, because I’m not good. I need lines. But I want to try to learn 🙂 But YOUR coloring looks amazing–you are very artistic. Nice job.
Brian Poteraj says
You personalized them well. The eyes, decorated shirt, cat. They are each nice and look very different.

Hi Kathy, oh it not wintery here but gray and rainy, not the most wonderful weather you can imagine.
The images are gorgous, although I am not a fond of cats at all. Cats don’t like me and I don’t like them LOL, I like dogs.
Your cards are awesome and I love the card with the red haired girl the most, can’t explane why, it’s just a feeling.
Thank you for your post and until the next time.

What a way to brighten this East Coast snow day. I like both cards, but especially the no-line. I have to practice that some more. I agree that the Arches paper is great to paint on, and I love how you can “see” that great texture.
But really…….. painting in the middle seat of an airplane??? Okay, you are my hero! I don’t think I could even try that!
Michele K. Henderson says
I love your beautiful watercolor cards! My favorite is the no-line watercolor! I love how the white background really brings the image to life, and you can see the teeny tiny details like those small berries and leaves better. Both of them are stunning!

Love your sweet cards and this precious cat lady! I have just the friend to make this for too!

Hey, Kathy. This October I flew across country for the first time and it was to LA. Due to a mechanical problem on the first leg of the journey, I also ended in a middle seat. Because you had talked about working on the plane, I had come prepared with a smal paint set and water brush. It sure made an uncomfortable flight go faster as my husband and I were separated and he had all the food in his backpack

Your coloring always blows me away. The way to color blend is amazing!!! Waffleflower makes such unique stamps that have to be added to my collection.

I think both of these are adorable! Cute stamp! Thank you for the tip on the paper. I am just super impressed you were able to paint these on the airplane!!!! I find even reading challenging at times since the seats seem to get smaller and smaller each time I fly. 😉 Kudos to you!!!
Jeanne says
Your cards are gorgeous, Kathy. I am so impressed with how you bring images to life. You take away anyone’s excuse not to color by the way you are able to color on airplanes! I tried it when I was going back and forth to CA a couple of years ago and I found it hard, with the bumpiness that can happen on a flight. Your images are so vibrant and beautiful. I just really appreciate your talent. Thank you for sharing.

What gorgeous cards! I love the way you color. Funny you should mention watercoloring on a plane. I am going to be on a 15 hour flight with my family in a couple of weeks and I was telling my husband that I need to think of something I can color or craft. And, I have Tombow watercolors! Maybe I should stamp some images and take them!
Annalisa says
I can’t believe you managed to watercolor this on an airplane! I can barely breathe! Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but detail work is beyond me in the air. You do, in fact, have superpowers! Thanks for sharing your beautiful coloring with us. You’re always inspirational both as an aspiration for my coloring and because of your honesty about how projects go.

Such adorable cards!

I like the no line coloring best. It’s not something I am good at doing, so I love when people who are good share their ideas.
Your airplane stories are always fun. I think I would have been happy to have the one sleeping and the other watching movies too =)
