Hello Friends, How are you this Monday? I can’t tell you enough how I appreciate your visits here or if you have time to comment I want you to know that I enjoy reading every single one. Lately I have had a hard time finding the time to respond and will try and get back to it.
So many wonderful Birthday’s in April and May including my husband’s 60th BD! Today I am thrilled to be celebrating with Picket Fence Studio FIRST Birthday! Picket Fence came right out of the gate with cool and exciting stamps and BIG GIVEAWAYS! AT the bottom of my post I will be giving away $100.00 gift certificate to the Picket Fence Studio PLUS a 20% discount store code. OMG right! A big thanks to Picket Fence Studio.
Most of you know that I try to challenge myself when creating and I love to try and make larger scale works that can be framed and hung on a wall instead of a card! When you frame something it magically looks prettier!
For my project I am using this large “Botan Peony” and masking it with some masking paper. The ink I will be using is this ink and its great for watercolor or copic markers. My preference is the Warm Glow color because it’s easier to see.
The larger stamps are perfect for my vision of larger works. Also after purchasing the large memory keeping misti it made my life easier. (you can find it as a bundle here) If you don’t like to make larger projects I don’t recommend buying that big ole misti.
Do you think the bouquet was created with one single flower? The “Botan Peony” was used and masked three times. See below.
Sometimes when you are masking it becomes hard to find the petals of each particular flower. If you leave a boarder around the mask when cutting it out you will have some space between the petals and makes the petals easier to see plus it’s faster because you aren’t fussy cutting the mask.
An interesting background is what I was going for so I used the 3.5″ circle and the 4.5″ circle stencil for the background. All I did was trace the inside of circles with a pencil. Then I was ready to add paint…the most fun part!
Here is how my flower progressed above. In the second photo I added black to make the flower on the left stand out.
I chose one flower to have more of an impact with a color pop and the other two flowers more monochromatic in color.
When everything was dry I added some color pencil accents and filled in the nooks and crannies with a pencil and a fine tip black marker.
The green circle was splotchy looking when it dried so I used a sand eraser to smooth it out.
I wanted to share this jumbo succulent that I watercolored in this blog post and I have a video watercoloring the succulent. Using the super large flowers and succulents are so fun paint and get creative with wall art or cards.
GIVEAWAY! To qualify for the $100.00 gift certificate to the Picket Fence Studio all you need to do is leave a comment and I will announce a winner the following Monday.
FOR THE 20% discount store code USE THE CODE PFS20 when making your purchase.
Thanks sooo much to Picket Fence Studio for the giveaway and a big thank YOU for your visit. Have a good week! Hugs, Kathy

The colors on your flowers are gorgeous. I love the pink/purple, and adding the orange one to it is just so pretty. Orange is my favorite color, but designers don’t use orange very often. This is so pretty, I am really enjoying it.
I am thrilled that you like my color choices, Sharon! Orange should be used more, I think. It tends to get ignored. Thank you for brightening my day 🙂
Your Peony is very pretty. I can’t grow them where I live so I enjoy them in photos, and on cards.
Thank you, Brian! I am glad you can enjoy peonies vicariously lol 🙂
Love the bright colors you chose, and your instructions are so thorough! Very nicely done!
What a lovely compliment, Patricia! You made my day 🙂

Wow – that is GORGEOUS, Kathy! I have shied away from large stamps because I thought the card making possibilities were limited. But, use them for wall art….! I love how you used the simple circles for a background. It gives the piece a modern vibe, but has the lovely flowers I adore.

Thanks Michelle you are so kind. The thing is I don’t worry about where the light is coming from I just put a darker area where the mood strikes me. When I travel for my road trips this is one of my top 10 coloring tips. Take the stress out of the shadows and don’t think about it. 🙂
That framed piece is stunning! I love the masked flowers and the circle background, and loving the smaller piece too. The vibrancy in the coloring is wonderful!

Stunning piece of art! I love how you made one peony stand out!
Well I have always been a big fan of your work Kathy and wow if I wasn’t I would be for sure now. These are just amazing. I would have to win the 100.00 in order to get them right now because we are saving for our trip to hawaii at the end of may.
Your wall of framed works is so gorgeous Kathy. If this piece is going up there it will look fabulous. I love the colors and of course your fine details make it come alive. I recently got a couple of larger background stamps and have considered getting the larger Misti, now after hearing your story, I don’t think I need it. Thank you for that and for the chance to win your oh so generous prize. I really think I need that succulent stamp, so very beautiful. Happy Birthday to Picket Fence. Keep up the great work.
Oh my, what a lovely piece of art! I ordered the peony stamp the other day and eagerly await its delivery. If I win the $100 gift card, I could get the succulent stamp
Thank you Kathy for sharing your talent.
These stamps are so beautiful and I just Love all the bright colors you used on them!
Gorgeous work of art. Your color selection is always spot on.
Simply gorgeous! I’m in awe of your coloring skills!
Such a beautiful piece of art, Kathy! Thanks for showing us how you created it.
Gorgeous coloring and love the card design! Happy Birthday PFS!
Outstanding!!! Besides cards, I’ve made ATC’s which are smaller and some journal pages which are little bit bigger. After seeing this piece, I think I’ll try something bigger. Looks great framed on your wall.
What a beautiful wall you have there with all your pretty art work! Such a bright spot! 🙂 Fantastic coloring Kathy! I don’t have the talent and patience to color like that! Thanks for the chance to win that generous blog candy! 🙂 Have a blessed day!
Wow!!! Gorgeous!!!!
Wow! So amazingly gorgeous ❣️ You never cease to amaze me Kathy, I learn so much from you…
I love the large size of the Peonies. I’m thankful for you making me aware of Picket Fences. The color combination you’ve used if truly phenomenal.
Your cards are absolutely gorgeous. I love the vivid colors and the Picket Fence flowers are beautiful. I, too, have many birthdays in April and May — in just over a three week period I have five — my son, daughter-in-law and three of my four grandchildren. I love making them all cards, but every year to vow to start earlier!
Beautiful colors and I like the circle background.
OMG! Your flowers are wonderful. I really love the colors you used. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely peonies, one of my favorite flowers! Enjoyed the step-by-step directions, too.
These peonies are gorgeous! I was in your Columbus Ohio Daily Marker Roadtrip. You showed a small fold up box that you carried your pencils and other supplies in. Who makes that?
Hi Ann! Thanks for coming to my Road Trip in Columbus! I love those fold up things. Here is a link and now you can get them in such fun colors. Thanks for your visit. Hugs, Kathy

Ohhhhh Kathy, this is STUNNING! Your coloring and choices of color, are impeccable! Thank you for being so generous, with all that you do. Like you, I like larger images so that I can do larger pieces of art. Not a thing at all wrong with cards, but it sure is nice to have the option to create larger pieces for myself, or for gifts. And this Peony is beautiful and needs to find a home with me along with the larger MISTI.
