Hello All, Anything new? Such crazy weather rather more crazy weather. I hope you all are safe and sound!
The only part of coloring that I don’t like is when you have to stop….when time doesn’t permit you to finish. I have been itching to color this adorable stamp set from My Favorite Things called, “Builder Bears“. Super sweet right! I’m 99% sure I pulled the flowers right out of their package but, I can’t find them on the MFT’s web site. Go figure!
Any how these cuties were inked up with Gina K. ink (I use it for watercolor or alcohol markers) My first layer of color is with Copic Markers. E50 I use for skin, critters and flowers as a first layer. (right now Simon Says Stamp has 25% off their copic markers Woo hooo! Use the code MARKERSALE)
At this stage of the game my coloring looks pretty crappy but, it’s a good illustration that coloring really is a process and one has to be patient.
Here’s another post with the same technique and the E50 too. In this photo I have added lines and colored with the pencil right close to the line to fill in the line area very lightly. It takes a while for pencil coloring to take shape!
Adding the first layer with markers saves time in the long run. In this photo I am adding my second color with longer lines and different size lines. When I am traveling I tell the group not even to try this if your pencil isn’t sharp. In other words PRETTY PLEASE SHARPEN YOUR PENCIL BEFORE DOING THIS…and keep sharpening the tip of your pencil during your coloring. Thank YOU!
Can you see how the E50 is a warm glow coming through the pencil?
Lots and lots of lines. Use a medium color then a DARK color on top. Light layers so you can build up your colors.

I so love your lines-colouring , if I can call it like that. It’s always stunning to see.
I take my bruch everyday for a short while and still colouring the same image.

Fantastic ! I hate not finding inspiration or sets I started with, so annoying. Your work is awesome as ever. My family were putting up a shed in my daughters garden & due to my disabilities I couldn’t help, so I got an entire TWO hours to colour swotch my zigs, some new Nuvo markers & then colour with my pencil crayons. TWO hours, luxury. Have a good friday, here’s to a nice weekend. Weather in England is so muggy, wet with few signs of the thing they call sun !!
Kathy Racoosin says
Andrea, that is fantastic! You made very good use of your time 🙂
Gab says

Guess what? I get what you are saying about coloring being a process. I did so many Christmas cards last year. I don’t know how to make a simple card. I’m a card maker & simple is not in my vocabulary. I also don’t make the same card for everybody. That being said, it takes me a long time to make a card never mind lots of Christmas cards. Some of my cards arrived late but better late than never I always say. Everyone loved them! I am starting mine now & maybe I will have then done by Christmas! LOL I can’t wait for you to see the Get Well card I am making someone. She had shoulder surgery & now she has something called Frozen Shoulder. She’s in terrible pain 24/7 & they won’t give her anything for it. I am getting so creative with this card & you will love it when you see it! I even used some of my hand marbled paper for it. I think she will love it!
I can’t wait to see how this looks when it’s all done.
Kathy Racoosin says
That is awesome, Gail! I am so happy that you get so much time to color 🙂
Teresa Doyle says
WOW Kathy, this is stunning. I can see where pencil colouring DOES take patience and a sharp pencil would be the ticket to a great finished piece.

You brightened my day, Teresa! Thank you so much for your lovely compliment. Yes, keep that pencil sharp 🙂

BEAUTIFUL colouring!
One of the BEST things about colouring is watching the MAGIC happen as you build up the colours and textures 🙂
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks, Tracy! It can be magical, can’t it? I hope you have time to make some magic happen 🙂
