Hello All, Welcome to Day 28! Is that for real? Today’s post I am calling this post Mixed Media because I am combining watercolor and colored pencils (Yes I do this a lot) .
I love that Paper Smooches is back in the stamping game and treating us with new designs this past year. This particular stamp set is called, “Rosy Posy” and I just love Kim’s design style.
This was watercolored on the way to Paris over a month ago with my Tombow markers. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to glaze this with another layer of watercolor OR add pencil details. Well it’s pretty obvious what I finally decided to do lol.
Ok so let me be honest. What do you think of this coloring? Decent? It’s those little things and spending a little extra time that really elevates your coloring. NOT settling when your coloring looks good … if you want it to look better these little details will make a big difference.
again ….. that tip must be sharp or it won’t look that good. To pull the color out to the center of the petals … you have to have a really LIGHT hand and it’s more like skimming the paper and making little squiggles or scribbles.
Adding the pencils took me about an hour? When I was finished I added some black sharpie in tiny little areas.
I hope I gave you all something to consider. See you tomorrow for more Tombow and pencils! Hugs, Kathy

Beautiful job on the rose! Love the colors you chose. You have an awesome knack for not only coloring, but choosing the best color combos and your details and shadows.
What an awesome tip!! It made a huge difference!! Gonna give it a try for sure!! Thanks again for all you do!!
So beautiful, love the color!
It really is amazing how much depth adding the black adds to the overall image.
Love your rose. I think that little extras help. Just like a bit of salt on a steak. the salt is small but it makes the steak so much better.
I want to thank you for the 30 day color challenge. I might not have color every day, but I colored a bit more than I usually do. Coloring brings a calming effect, especially after all the earthquakes and after shocks.
thanks,
mischelle
I often think about adding extra details all the time but I’m scared I’d ruin it . Ugh I guess I need to just do it !
Thank you Kathy for the push !
Kathy, this is GORGEOUS!!! I watched your video & saw SO MANY MORE DETAILS up close! I was wondering….. I noticed, when you do the colored pencils, you color in one direction the whole time. When I do the colored pencils on my water colors or any other time, my hand wants to do hatching & cross hatching motions & blend it out. Is that more style? Or am I doing it “wrong?” THANKS KATHY!!! The time has FLOWN BY & I have MORE POSTS for the coloring challenge, more than time is left! LOL
Kathy, this rose is stunning! You are so good at the little finishing touches that really bring your flowers to life. The color you chose is perfection. You make me want to head for my craft room immediately & play.
This is beautiful! The coloring beyond good! Thanks for sharing.
It’s beautiful!
So beautiful!
Beautiful! I find shading to be challenging (I’m definitely not an artist), but yours is gorgeous. You’ve inspired me to keep trying.
This is really beautiful! I love how you add the colored pencil details to your colored floral image. Thanks for sharing your tips. 🙂
Pencils makes such a difference Kathy. I finished my Power Poppy bouquet that I posted earlier also with pencils and you can see the difference. Images come to live when pencil is used after watercolouring This was the greatest tip I ever got and you gave me that tip, I am still grateful for that.
This rose is awesome and roses are my favorite flowers, always loved them in all kind of colours. Thank you for your post today and see you tomorrow. Happy colouring.
wow, that’s just stunning!
This is exquisite, love the purple on this floral. Thanks for sharing your tips and the technique video.
This is really Beautiful!!!
This is so gorgeous Kathy
I so totally know what you mean about your pencils being very sharp. A friend of mine gave me a pencil sharpener with 2 different sized holes. We have one in my house. My dad hung it up in our den & I use it. Of course, when I am out & about, I can’t use it so I am glad I have the portable one. I learned to use colored pencils in my high school art classes so I know exactly what you are saying. I love how you did this one. I love the stamp too! Great job girl!
Beautiful flower. I’m just getting into colored pencils. I have such a hard time not breaking the tips off. I guess its all part of the learning curve.
Those last details make such a huge difference! So gorgeous!
WOW ! The difference that you make when you go in with those SHARP pencils to the images is so well.worth the extra time. I’ve definetly learnt to spend time adding this onto images, all thanks to you & your sharp pencils mantra.x
OMG! Me, me, me I have been waiting for these amazing stamps to be available for purchase in Europe for such a long time! Fingers crossed Btw. your coloring is absolutely spectacular!
Your coloring is amazing!! I love all the tips you give to on coloring.
Those car stamps are so cool! I’ve got a few friends that would enjoy cards with them on it.
I originally saw your video on Instagram and the close-ups of your process were really helpful! “Something to think about” for sure!
This is so beautiful Kathy! Thank you for all your hard work you put into the challenge!
Me!!♀️ Thank you for hosting these challenges and sharing your techniques with us! I’m encouraged by the way you use multiple color mediums in the nooks and crannies for BEAUTIFUL results!
So pretty! Thanks for such a fun challenge. You are always so great to encourage and comment as you can. We appreciate all you do for the community!
DELIGHTFUL card Kathy!
WOW – it was like MAGIC watching you add the pencil accents and I confess, I have never done this … I will try to overcome my fear of wrecking things and give pencils a go, I know I can make sure the ends are sharp but I’m not so sure that I will have such a delicate tough that you have => THANK YOU for sharing your video and tips 🙂
Gorgeous creation, the added pencils and sharpie really increased the richness!
Absolutely gorgeous!
I love those colors!! Beautiful!!
Love to see your coloring ideas. Always beautiful.
Kathy I have learned so much from you! It does make a huge difference when you spend time in the nooks and crannies! It’s stunning!
Xoxo Olga
With all the additional accents this is truly lovely. At first look I thought the berries were three dimensional!
Kim’s rose is amazing and you coloured it perfectly. Its funny that when I watched the video on YT and commented there (and hadn’t yet read this post) I was going to say, “a sharp pencil and a light hand!” So obviously Kathy I am learning a lot from you. TFS!
