Day 21 & 22. Modern Watercolor Botanicals & Weekend Photos

Hello Friends, How are you? Having a good week? So yesterday I just couldn’t bring myself to post. I picked up a nasty cold … probably on the airplane and honestly for the first time in my life it was hard to color! Gasp! Below you will see what I opted to do.

Also I am sharing a few photos from the weekend away with some of you at Village Paper & Ink. I always come away feeling so pumped, inspired, blessed and grateful!

This is my watercoloring today and I can’t wait to finish this!  Sarah Simon who is a watercolorist referred to as The Mint Gardner on Instagram just released her new book and boy she really breaks watercoloring down step by step in her book!

This I posted on Instagram for yesterday’s “coloring” Knowing that I can do this opens up a new world with digital prints! This revelation comes at a great time because Power Poppy is will be having a new digital release soon!

I have the tear sheet under the watercolor paper and I am pressing it up to the window to trace it. You can use a light box or the window.

NOTE* the tiny hands ha ha. My nail polish is chipping so my tiny hands came in handy (thanks for this gift from Gina K. Designs)!

So in the book there are tear sheets to do exactly what I did and there are several to choose from.

For my watercoloring today I had paint left in my palette so I added water in the palette to create a first my layer of color.

OK TIME TO SHARE THESE PHOTOS! Let me preface this … I am not good at taking the time to get photos. I am in the zone and it’s the thing furthest from my mind.

When Kristina gets out her selfie stick it comes in handy! Thank YOU Kristina! I realized it’s hard to see everyone and it was not that easy to arrange everyone due to space. We did the best we could and I am glad we managed something. (this was Friday)

Everyone was thrilled that Jennifer and Kristina were there! Sometimes the girls can sneak away and it’s always awesome when they can. Gina from Gina K. Designs and I were thrilled to say the least!!

On Saturday Heidi from Simon Says Stamp was able to come. It makes me so happy when everyone can see how passionate Heidi is about crafting & this industry PLUS I love that people can see how funny Heidi is too! Heidi also takes orders really well or from me anyway lol. I found the pink bunny ears on the floor and told her to put them on! Heidi happily obliged!

Thank YOU all that came out I am so grateful and my heart is so full. I get all giddy when you guys show up, listen and apply my coloring tips. Gina and I raised a few thousand for the local food pantry and that makes me happy too!

Rina (Gina’s daughter) and Simon (InkLipse) collaborate on some videos and have a podcast series. Rina, I and our tiny hands made a card! Coming soon! You can watch Rina on YouTube here and Simon on YouTube here.

Gina’s store called Village Paper and Ink in Greendale, Wisconsin is beautiful, spacious and inspiring PLUS has such a great vibe!

All of the merchandise is displayed so pretty!

Lunch is always included at my venues. I love this photo of Gina! How’s that for service lol. Gina was offering seconds to who ever wanted.

Gina’s other half is Tom and he’s just as awesome as Gina. Matter of fact they used to be in a band together! I love how Tom serenades everyone during lunch! Yes please!

This photo I pulled from Jennifer’s Instagram. I can’t remember why Heidi was laughing so hard but, there was lots of laughs and it was awesome! I called Heidi up because she has a loud voice and my voice was waining. *I had food poisoning that morning and when I was throwing up the girls were in a tizzy trying to figure out who would teach what etc. Because it was food poisoning once all that icky was out I was ok beside a raw throat.

That’s a small summary of the weekend and I hope you can see the love! Every single person was so sweet, kind and lovely. I know some of you can’t make my Road Trips and I am working on a way to bring it to you another way. Until then ….

See you tomorrow. Hugs, Kathy

I am enjoying your coloring and I have been coloring too; not well because of the medium I chose but trying. Hope you are feeling normal now and your coloring is going great. To have Heidi and Gina’s daughter and Simon all at the same place, how many times can that possibly happen? The start to this project looks amazing. I love that you can trace on that heavy watercolor paper. Going to check out that site. Thanks for sharing these pics it really is so great to see how much you are loved. Glad you’re feeling better.

Wonderful to see your dedication to this 30 day challenge especially when you’re feeling not the greatest. Last month I had a very very bad bacterial sinus infection with three days of fever which left after antibiotic kicked in and left me with no appetite and bedridden. Then few days after that to recover. So my plans for 30 day challenge hasn’t happened yet because every thing else was backed up. At least my thought of what I wanted to do is still there. Lol. Thanks for sharing

in spite of the health issues, it looks like a wonderful, funny, productive weekend with old friends and new. I haven’t been able to contribute much to the 30 Day Challenge this time. I too had an ear infection and could’t hear – literally – for almost 3 weeks. However, I may get one in before 30 November. I did manage to get 3 in at the beginning. Hahahaha. I plan on getting that book too.

Oh my gosh, it looks like you guys had a blast! I wish I could have been there & you had live music? Wow! Did you guys do a lot of coloring or were you just fooling around all the time? LOL
I love how you did those leaves. Do you know my dad has a light box? it plugs in & it has to be from the 50’s or 60’s. It’s a plastic box that you plug in. My dad was not an artist. He did leather crafting & painted some of it but he didn’t do any coloring or painting like we do so I’m not sure what he used it for. I’m not even sure it works but I will have to try it. My dad did have 2 books of tracing paper but I don’t know what he did with them because they are all blank. I might have to check all of this stuff out!
