Day 28. Add Brown – Leave White & GIVEAWAY

Helllooo Friends!! If you are living in the US of A.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING to YOU!! Either way for me it’s a day to be reflective and grateful. I am grateful for you all reading this post. Thank YOU for your commitment to me, your daily visits and occasional or frequent comments. You are the reason I am still doing this. 

Holidays can be hard for many people and if you are one of those struggling during the holiday here is a big warm and fuzzy hug for you! Get a class of wine, or put on some music, light a candle and get your color on OR do some or all of the above.

Yup it’s the holidays but, other cards are still useful and I always love coloring flowers especially the Power Poppy flowers. I felt these colors were fitting for Thanksgiving and somewhat autumn-ey! Power Poppy just released some stunning new digital prints and I can NOT wait to color them.

Today I have a few tips on coloring a large scale background like this. Each and  every flower doesn’t need to be colored or painted.

This is the paper I am using and this is the ink of choice always!

See the white arrow? When you are doing some “no line coloring” you can redesign some petals or color over small petals that you aren’t in the mood to color lol. In the photo I am painting over the small bent petal.

In this snap I basically painted some of the petals quickly just for color. I will spend more time on ONE of the flowers.

When I used distress ink to watercolor I always feel successful. Here I am adding brown “shading” or highlights but, I am not thinking about where my brush goes. Just add some dark brown somewhere.

In case you are wondering I am using the Waffle Flower Media Mat. It’s pretty awesome for watercoloring on. I am making an effort to leave some white anywhere … on some of the petals for interest. Don’t stress over it just enjoy the process.

For the flowers center I am adding  squiggles with my brush. Once this is dry I add a deep dark brown with more squiggles to create texture.

If you look close I added little “eyelash” lines with a fine tip sharpie around the flowers center … on the edge. Off to work on those brussel sprouts and mash potatoes.

    I like detailed stamps like these but the coloring always seems overwhelming. Thanks for showing me that every detail doesn’t need to be colored. Sometimes it looks better to leave some elements not colored. Happy Thanksgiving!

Also, I love the finished card. I love how you only finished colouring the flower in the foreground. I’d struggle not to colour everything. It looks lovely!
