Hello Friends. First of all how are YOU? Knowing you are ok is the most important especially with this flu and Corona virus running around!
On another note it’s that time!!! IT’S COLORING TIME!!
Welcome to DAY ONE of the 15th coloring challenge, “The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge” OMG I can’t believe it’s DAY ONE!!! YIPEEE!! I am so excited you are here and that so many of you are taking the challenge again! Thank YOU and thank you all for your comments, enthusiasm and for taking the challenge!!!! If you are new this go around or have been watching from the side lines and decided to jump in I am so proud of you for taking some “me” time. My mantra has always been to find just 10 minutes a day to color and watch the stress of the day melt away.
If this is your first time don’t be hard on yourself and jump in when time permits. If you have any questions about the coloring challenge you can refer to this post . If you want to get my posts in your mailbox you can sign up here or subscribe to my videos here.
For Day 1. I like to do something a little out of the ordinary and the rest of the challenge I won’t have the luxury of time and it will be back to business as usual lol. Check out the 50 second video to see how this evolved.
For a previous coloring challenge for Day 1. I used sharpies again. You can watch that more in depth video here. Here is another post where I colored with Sharpies as well.
Why Sharpies you might ask?
I want to show you that is it possible to be successful with other markers such as Sharpies if you are willing to put the time in. This did take a long time to color and going forward I would be coloring something like this over the course of a few days.
I started by inking up this beautiful floral with some of my favorite ink from Gina K. Designs. I use the “Warm Glow” ink for my watercoloring or any other medium. Yes alcohol markers! What I love most about this ink is it’s not to light in color. I can see it and that means no frustrations!
This large daisy from Picket Fence is easy to color because the lines guide you if you are going for the “no line” coloring look PLUS the petals are open to give you a nice blend-able space.
In this photo I used three Sharpies PLUS a black sharpie to fill in some of the nooks & crannies.
Lines is one of my top 10 coloring tips. This image was colored with a series of lines. One thing … do you emboss? If I can convince you to NOT emboss you will have more time to color and better success. I truly believe that. Speaking of tips did you know I have a class covering all of my coloring tips with OCC?
When you don’t emboss you can get your pencil or marker right up to that line and you can fill in those nooks and crannies. When I am on my road trips I joke that embossing is like having training wheels on lol.
In this photo I added the brown lines of color with a fine tip Copic marker then I added green pencilsto color the stem and leaves. For the flowers petals I only used the Sharpies until the very end I added a little brown to the petals in a few areas only.
Since this is the first day I want to make mention of something that I think is very important and I like to mention it every challenge … our posture! When coloring take pause and think if you can lift your gaze and straighten you back. Using a clip board helps you prop up your project so you aren’t bending over (you can prop the clip board on a stack of books). I take a clip board on the plane with me and it saves my neck in a good way!
I can not wait to see what you all are coloring. Woo Hoo!!
There are 3 ways to share what you are coloring. If you want to join a community of coloring enthusiasts I recommend FaceBook or Instagram. Be sure to tag me and use the hashtag #thedailymarker30day. Kids & young adults use #thedailymarker30daykids.
The 3rd way is to link up to my blog to share your coloring. It will always be on todays post…DAY 1. each day I will link you back here to share your coloring.

You got this to look this beautiful with SHARPIES? WOW!! I am not sure I am patient enough to do the line technique. I remember having to do a huge piece with lines in college with hard pencils. It took FOREVER and by the end I was ready to throw it out the window. I LOVE the effect of the different colors that you got on this image though. STUNNING!

Thank you

Stunning colouring Kathy and a great start of the challenge!
I posted my first card, yeah! No colouring but playing wiht ink and embossing powder.
But I have a image that I am colouring with pencils and that will take a while, that doesn’t matter because I love to see that image grow.

I so enjoyed the short video that I followed the link to the longer one. Your coloring is amazing, and you are kind to share your skills and encouragement. My craft room is awaiting new flooring, so I will do more enjoying of others’ coloring than doing my own for a while. Looking forward to having some time to join in later. Thanks for the inspiration!
Kathy Racoosin says
Thank you. I bet it will be so exciting to have new flooring in your craft room.

I had a problem with the site. It posted something I didn’t want to post. Sorry about that. I hope you like the WIP I am doing that I posted. It is so much fun doing it! I thought I would have it finished by tonight but maybe by tomorrow. I am so excited for the challenge & I love what you did with that flower. I love that stamp & I might have to get it. I’ve been coloring since the last challenge & since my mom goes to therapy twice a week now, I get to color for an hour while she has therapy for her knees. The people who go there a lot call me the artist. I love to make a black & white picture come alive with color. I get tons of likes for my coloring on Facebook so I must be doing something right.
I have a question for you. Do you find that the caps of markers don’t match the color of the pens on paper? I just bought what I thought were some bright Sharpie Markers but when I used them they weren’t all that bright. They didn’t match the outside of the marker. Did you find that with your markers? I hate that!
I am so looking forward to the challenge & what you can teach us.
Gail Plaskiewicz says
The post that I didn’t want to post is the one that only has a little bit done. I think I posted it last time. The I Believe In Yesterday is recent & so are the rest.
Kathy Racoosin says
Unfortunately it’s often true that with markers in general they don’t always match exactly. Must be hard to duplicate the liquid color on plastic caps.
Katie Brooks says
Wow, that is amazing!
Kathy Racoosin says
Thank you

I just saw this today so I’m very late in starting. Does watercoloring count? I’m getting ready to start my Altenew class.
Kathy Racoosin says
Of course watercoloring counts?

Your coloring and tutorials are just amazing. I have been working on my coloring in my Copics and colored pencils. I just saw your coloring on the Digi print of the Daffodil. I participate in Kit and Klowder and that was one of the monthly classes so this one was really helpful to me. Maybe one day I can participate all the way through the 30 day. Thank you for all your teaching and beautiful coloring.
Kathy Racoosin says
We’re happy to have you anytime.

Good morning from the state of Maryland. I haven’t posted art I have done, just not that good. I am work on projects daily and agree it is calming. I do love viewing the fazamagorical art I see and am truly inspired by all.
I do want to respond about donations to Food Banks . I think it is an excellent idea.
I made a financial donation about a week or so ago to the MD Food Bank. I also suggest if folks are not financially able to contribute perhaps they could volunteer time. I volunteered Wednesday because I read companies that usually have employees volunteer had cancelled. The scheduled time slot was for a short 3 hour time span.
Thanks.
Kathy Racoosin says
Very helpful. Thank you.
