Hello Friends, Welcome to the Altenew + The Daily Marker Therapy Blog Hop. I am so excited to be hopping today and a big thanks to May ! I love that May and Altenew know that coloring is therapy and much needed especially now! Plus a Watercolor Therapy Blog Hop is a great way to kick off the weekend since most days just all mush together it’t nice to focus on something fun!!
If you are a 30 Day Coloring Challenge friend today is Day 24. If you are just finding out about the 30 Day Coloring Challenge jump in now and get your feet wet! Anyone is welcome!
On another note how are you? Taking it day by day?
To start at the beginning of the hop go to the Altenew Card Blog here. (I will have the full list at the bottom of my post) May has an awesome line up of amazing colorists and it might be a good idea to be sitting down when you see all of the talent and inspiration. Thank You ladies and gent for playing along!
Altenew is collaborating with me to inspire crafters to find joy through coloring. This is my 16th 30 Day Coloring Challenge until 5/7/2020. Anyone is welcome to participate in the The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge by coloring something … anything and share it on social media using the hashtag #TheDailyMarker30Day. If you have questions or want more info about the coloring challenge click here. Daily I encourage you to find some “Me Time” even if it’s only 10 minutes. Take that time to enjoy the benefits that coloring will give especially now more than ever!
Coloring and painting takes time and lots of it if you want a certain result. With that said I filmed a video but, I am going to finish that up later for you. Hopefully in the meantime maybe … if you sign up for notifications you won’t miss my video? I will be editing it today and tomorrow.
May didn’t need to twist my arm to watercolor because that’s my favorite medium to use lately. Altenew has an artist grade watercolor pan set with beautiful colors in the palette. Oh la la yes please!
Combing stamp sets is pretty much a guarantee that your card will be unique and it usually gives you the opportunity to add another pop of color such as the Canterbury Flowers did to the Statement Flowers. The great thing about the Canterbury Flowers you can ink up for the shading and don’t even have to color.
If I am planning a colorful background I always paint the background first and give it time to dry. If you have some mess ups keep in mind pretty much anything can be fixed later … just get some color down on your paper and enjoy the process as it unfolds.
Yellow flowers aren’t my thing so I set out to challenge myself and was hoping that I would be happy with the results. Right now I am adding that first layer of color and leaving white lines on each petal. Once the surfaces are dry I add another layer of color. I call this lazy watercoloring but, I swear to you it’s easier to get those lighter and darker areas rather than all one wash of color.
Most of you know that after watercoloring I love to add some details with pencils and markers. My most favorite thing to do …. is fill in those Nooks & Crannies with a very sharp pencil. That sharp tip is required and will get into all the tiny grooves on the paper.
Adding a few black lines with a sharpie really gives you definition in the dark areas on your coloring. After stamping the “hello” I smudged the ink …. ugh … BUT, the smudge gave me a new way to add detail to a sentiment on a one layer card by outlining the hello in a few areas.

Thank you so much Sandi
I had my water colors out ready to paint today. This is just what I needed! I’m going to love getting some good tips. Your tip to color the background first is very helpful. Thanks.
I’m so glad. Have fun creating!
Kathy, this is so beautiful!! I love the teal against the yellow. I’d say this was a successful challenge! ☺️ I watercoloured this week, too! I’ve only done one project full project and I will admit I have kept on the heat-embossing training wheels for now. I bought a Koi watercolour palette recently and I’m going to let myself get used to how the colours move and layer over each other before I have to worry about creating crisp lines. That no-line watercolouring is my ultimate goal, though. Thank you for your continuous inspiration!
Just keep practicing. So glad to hear that you are enjoying it and that you’re continuing to learn.
Wow, such a beautiful card! The depth you created with your colouring is amazing!
Thank you Stacey
What a gorgeous card!!! The colors you used are beautiful. The blue/teal background is unexpected, but really adds to the card. I never realized how a pencil could add to depth.
It does make a difference. Thank you!
It is so fun to add colored pencil. It does make a difference for sure.

Beautiful, love the shading and added details!

Great combination of sets. I like the lines left on the petals.
Thank you
Stunning, Kathy! I just ordered that statement flower set earlier this week, as I won a voucher from Altenew, and I cannot wait to ink it up! It just needs to get to me first, hurry, hurry, Mr Postman 🙂 I need to practise your pencil technique more, but I rarely have the time to play to such extend with my makes… Some day…!
Congrats on winning the voucher! Have fun playing with your new set.

Definitely looking forward to your video. I really enjoy seeing your coloring process. This card is another lovely one. Your yellows turned out great and you can’t even tell that you smudged anything. I definitely need to see how you shaded the sentiment. I smudge things or drop my ink pads a lot. It would be nice to know how to fix some of the mistakes
Thanks for stopping by Annette.

Stunning colour combination. I am always a sucker for florals and this is so beautiful. Love the combining of more that one set of stamps. My favourite is watching you dig into those nooks and crannies with pencils and markers, but I also love the flow of the watercolour.
I love flowers too. Thanks for your kind words
gorgeous card!
amazing coloring!
Thank you so much
Coloring has kept me sane these past few weeks. I’m loving Altenew’s Watercolor Brush Markers and having a lot of fun with them. While I can’t image any coloring medium where you could not create a “masterpiece,” this card is amazing. I love the pencil highlights.
Coloring is definitely a good diversion right now. Thanks for stopping by
Your watercoloring is amazing as always! Looking forward to all this inspiration.
Thank you so much Amy
Your card is gorgeous! I love how your floral image stands out against the pretty watercolored background. 🙂
Thank you Terrie
How beautiful! Very inspiring!
Thank you Luanne
This card is stunning! I really like that painted background and how it is darker around the images and then fades out some. And the difference between pencil crayon and just the paint, really just adds a bit extra. I can tell you use your pencil crayons a lot! Some of those pencil crayons are almost gone!
They are almost gone. Ha! And yes I do use them a lot. Thank you for stopping by
I always learn something new from your lessons. This was one of those “Duh” moments when I realized “Hey yeah” there is no rule saying one can’t use pencil and marker on the same surface one just watercolored. I need to loosen up a bit.
Yay! Relax and enjoy. And thanks for stopping by
Stunning card!
Thank you Jenny
This is gorgeous!!Loved how you combined two different stamp sets..
Thanks so much
Wow! The details on here and depth is out of this world! Thank you for the description too!

Thank you Lynn
The detailing!! I’m definitely going to use that tip for my next coloring session and leave in some white in my rose petals.
I love the backgrounds and all the details!
Holy cow! I think that is the most beautiful card I have ever seen. I am new to all this so I hope I can get at least half as good as you. You do goregous work! I love the colors and they are so vibrant. I need to try this!
Your cards are incredibly gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your talents with us that are novices.
Beautiful! Kathy, what ink & color did you use for this “no line” watercolor technique? I find if i use dye inks, they tend to bleed. Haven’t found a watersafe light color to no-line watercolor with. LMK, thanks!
Hi Mona, This is the only ink that I love from Gina K. Designs!! Thanks for the kind compliment 🙂 https://www.ginakdesigns.com/product/gkd-amalgam-ink-pad-warm-glow/?sscid=31k4_hvubp&v=7516fd43adaa
GORGEOUS WORK, Kathy! I miss your e-mails & so I miss what is going on over here…. For some reason, even with re-subscribing, I don’t get your e-mails anymore. Nor do I get SSS e-mails! But, I wanted to come over & see what was going on. I’ve ALWAYS enjoyed seeing what images you can show us & today is no different! LOVE your paint palette too!
