Welcome to DAY ONE of the SEVENTEENTH 30 Day Coloring Challenge!! As you know my mantra has always been to find 10 minutes a day especially during this crazy Covid way of life for some “me time” to color.
I am happy that you are here and that many of you are taking the challenge. Everyday I am grateful for crafting & coloring as a distraction to what’s beyond the paper. If you are new this go around or have been watching from the side lines and decided to jump in I am so proud of you!
Please remember not to be hard on yourself and don’t compare what you are coloring to others. Keep in mind you can jump in when time permits …. you don’t have to color everyday if you don’t want to. This is supposed to be a fun and stress free challenge.
If you have any questions about the coloring challenge you can refer to this post . If you want to get my posts in your mailbox you can sign up here or subscribe to my videos here.
For Day 1. I like to do something a little out of the ordinary and today’s coloring is a good example that there are other ways to color. Some of you all like to get more inky and I say go for it! It all works for the 30 day challenge. Check out my video to see how I created these backgrounds. One of my things is butterflies and these from Lawn Fawn are just perfect for a simple yet dimensional card.
If you like the video a thumbs up is always appreciated. Thank YOU in advance!
You can see how the background turned out in this photo. The Karin watercolor markers have such beautiful colors so the background is vibrant yet simple. Each card has a pop of contrasting color on the inside. The arches paper is so luscious and textured and it’s all I use especially since it’s 140lb. cold press. If I feel I need a sentiment I can always use of of Simon Says Stamps sentiment strips like I used in this post. I LOVE having them on hand and they are available in white but, it’s the black ones have have my heart.
Since this is Day 1. It’s a tradition to mention something that I think is very important and I like to mention it every challenge … our posture! When coloring take pause and think if you can lift your gaze and straighten you back. Using a clip board helps you prop up your project so you aren’t bending over (you can prop the clip board on a stack of books).
There are 3 ways to share what you are coloring. If you want to join a community of coloring enthusiasts I recommend FaceBook or Instagram. On Instagram it’s about community, connecting & a great place to share what you are coloring. Tag me,Kathy and use the hashtag #thedailymarker30day. Children #thedailymarker30daykids.
The 3rd way is to link up to my blog to share your coloring. It will always be on todays post…DAY 1. each day I will link you back on this post to share you coloring.

Thanks for your enthusiasm for the challenge and I hope you know that I am just as excited as you are. Thanks for your visit and I will see you tomorrow Hugs, Kathy
P.S. If you want to share the logo (at the top of the post) when writing your blog post or on Facebook etc. that would be lovely & so appreciated!

Love this idea, and glad to see the 30 Day Coloring Challenge back! I’m at my daughter’s, but brought some simple coloring with me—no dies, though, so this technique will have to wait until I get home. Thanks for the challenge and the inspiration!

Thanks Karen

Dear Kathy,
I heard about you / your challenge / your site via Gina K’s live lessons on YouTube. I have just started scouting around your site. I would like to learn to color more expressively and how to blend better.
I’m nearing 50, a schoolteacher and a former proofreader for a publishing company. I am sending you this tiny piece of feedback because I think you are terrific and deserve to have the best website you possibly can; clearly a LOT of work has gone into making your web presence known.
The item of which I write is the word “everyday.” Unless you use it as an adjective, you should make it two words. Here are a few examples to show the difference.
– Every day, I work really hard.
– My husband likes to go grocery shopping. He goes every day. [In these first two examples, “every day” is an adverbial phrase b/c it tells how often an action is done.]
– I prefer to wear everyday clothing when I stamp in case things get messy. [Here, “everyday” modified “clothing,” so it’s an adjective.]
– Grocery shopping in an everyday chore.

Sorry – I got distracted and clicked “send” or whatever instead of signing my note.
With gratitude for your teachings,
Lori Spitzer of PA

Love this technique and I’m off to try it right now. Thanks too for the tip on posture. I find that I get a pain in my upper back when I sit and color for long. A good reminder to stretch occasionally. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity!
