Hello Friends, How are you? I pray that you all are good, happy and well!
Today I am popping in to celebrate Altnew’s newest release for a Paint-A-Flower Blog Hop plus giveaways. It’s always exciting to see what the monthly Paint-A-Flower will be each month. This month it’s the beautiful Cala Lily! Click here to check out previous months.
To start at the beginning of the hop go to the Altenew Card Blog. If you are coming from the Altenew Card Blog you are in the right place. I am the second stop on the hop.
Even thought it’s “Paint-A-Flower” you can use any medium to color these oh so pretty florals. My choice today is markers and pencils! To order the Calla Lily Outline Stamp Set click here.
After coloring the Calla Lily’s with markers I like to top off my coloring with pencils. Adding highlights to the flowers with pencils is more forgiving than adding highlights or shading with markers.
Making a belly band with some heavy weight vellum and twine (that I colored) was a clean finish to my card.
Nine out of ten times my first layer of color is markers. This first layer of color is what I call “scribble coloring” which is quick coloring, it doesn’t need to be perfect and it doesn’t need to take a long time. In this photo my card panel is prepped and ready for pencils.
If you are a pencil only person I like to encourage you to try a first layer of color because it saves time in the long run …. it does for me and it might for you too.
This is a progress shot and I am almost finished. You might have noticed I outline the image with a light blue marker. Using blue and black pencils I enhanced the blue outline sharpening my pencils many many times.
In this photo it gives you an idea how the coloring unfolds and yes it takes time. The more time you put into it the better the result depending on the look you are going for.
If you are interested in the Paint-A-Flower Monthly Subscription Plan click here. This is a monthly subscription plan the Altenew Paint-A-Flower. When signed up, you are guaranteed a spot in their monthly Paint-A-Flower releases and will receive a set each month – at a specially discounted price! ($15.99 →$12.99)

Wow you’re coloring is absolutely stunning! And I love that the veins in your leaves are lighter! I had not really paid any attention but I want to say it was Sandy Allnock who actually pointed that out in a video that I saw. Not something I had really ever thought about because everybody I see colors the veins darker. But of course she was right. But this is the first image I have seen since then where somebody actually did that and it makes such a difference in the realistic look!
Kathy Racoosin says
It really does make a difference
