Hello Friends, Welcome to Day 7. I hope you had a good weekend. Looks like you all are doing a great job finding a little time for you. Yay that makes me so happy. 🙂
For today’s project . I managed to make one place card with this sweet stamp from Lil Inker Designs. Did you know that Simon Says Stamp has a new ink great for “no line” coloring? Love the super soft beige color.
The image was stamped in black & beige and my plan was to color both for a comparison. I find that coloring with pencils take a bit longer than with markers for me. I outlined the image with a pencil and cut it out leaving a boarder. A ruler was used with a pencil to create the box below the image. I thought this would be a great place to add the name for place cards but, if I color more I will need to spend less time coloring. OR I could use this as a bookmark in stead.
Even my birds need some eyeshadow. I used a pencil to outline the image instead of a black marker. If my pencils are super sharp I seem to have an easier time coloring with them. This is the sharpener that I like but, I am always on the look our for a better one.
That’s it for today. Stay tuned for more giveaway coming up soon. Have a great day. Hugs, Kathy

This would make a lovely bookmark. Or, you could use it for a grocery list! I have had some lovely grocery lists, but they are usually my coloring “fails”! A bookmark seems more permanent! I would not want to color 24 of them as place cards!!!! Thanks. You make me smile.

I absolutely love the little bird (with her eyeshadow). The coloring is so beautiful. Another blogger (can’t remember which one) suggests a sharpener by möbius & ruppert. I haven’t gotten one yet, not had the opportunity, but she swears by it. I love your challenges, thanks for your hard work (and your helpers hard work also) and thanks for sharing your wonderful talents.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thank you so much for the sharpener info. I’ll have to check it out. Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate. Keep coloring like no one is watching. Enjoy 🙂

What a beautiful place card, Kathy, and I love the soft coloring with your pencils…a medium I’ve not yet mastered (and perhaps will not ever…ha…but that’s okay). I love this, and it’s inspiring me to look at some of my own stamps to find a way to use this. Hugs!

Hope it’s for a small party lol It would take me forever if I were to make place cards. Love the finish you have with pencils, I tend to push to hard and then have problems blending. I am working on it although. Very nice Kathy and yet again thanks.

Beautiful image. I have a hard time finding a pencil sharpener that works, but I ordered one from Amazon that I had seen on a blog where the gal did beautiful pencil coloring, and it was the one she recommended. It’s supposed to be here today, so I’ll let you know how it works.
Kathy Racoosin says
Please keep me posted that would be helpful. Thanks for your kind words. Enjoy the time for you. 🙂

I noticed the darker eyelid right away and thought “oh, what a nice way to define areas of the eye for extra depth.” I didn’t realize it was eye shadow until you mentioned it. Such a sweet image, and such lovely coloring. I’m sure others without Copics appreciate it, too. Now, for something with the cheap Crayola markers. 😉 At least they should make such a time-consuming, however amazing the result is, easier. If you do one of those, I’d like to know more about blending them.
AS FOR SHARPENERS: I’ve watched several YT videos about the Kum sharpeners. There are some comparison videos for their different sharpeners (the Automatic Long Point Sharpener and the Masterpiece Sharpeners). The “automatic” model is sold on Amazon for under $8. Here’s a good video about the Automatic Long Point Sharpener (which isn’t automatic like we know it, but it’s impressive): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRBrvBKiyUU
And here’s a review of several sharpeners, including the two Kum sharpeners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVn5n0l4ljM
Every video I’ve seen seems to rave about the Kum sharpeners. I have one in my shopping cart.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks so much for all the info. I really appreciate. Keep coloring. 🙂

I too find colored pencils take longer! These place cards are lovely….love my birds!
Traci Starkweather says
This is beautiful Kathy! I thought it may be a nice idea if you could attach it to a small piece of wood and write the name on the piece of wood.
I suppose you may consider it cheating if you colored one and copied it onto the same type of cardstock. You could add a few pencil strokes on each to add highlights to each. (Restraint needed, Girl Friend!)

DELIGHTFUL … I would be too distracted looling at mine to even think about eating!!!
Sharpeners are still a frustration for me … will check out yours and the others suggested in the comments – Thank You all for sharing 🙂

I meant LOOKING …. or was I subconsciously thinking of drooling 😉
Nancee Purdum says
Oh what great coloring Kathy! I also find that coloring with my colored pencils takes a lot longer than other mediums. I always seem to be in a rush, so I tend to lean on my Copics for coloring a lot. I need to spend more time with my pencils! Gorgeous Kathy! 🙂
