Every year for my entire life we’ve had Thanksgiving dinner. When my mom could no longer “host” dinner I began cooking for my own family and extended. For the past 23 years I have cooked the main components of the meal as well as all the desserts from scratch. This is the very first year my husband and I have decided not to take on the arduous task of hosting and we are going to Myrtle Beach for the week!
Kathy Racoosin says
Excellent idea. More time to color. 🙂
Mel H says
I will be cooking for my family, probably something pretty simple! But we are considering eating at one of the state park events here as a change of pace, so who knows! Either way, pie will be there.
carol says
The Stamping Bella images are amazing; these chickens are too. much. fun! Love their antlers and especially love how you’ve coloured them up! Fabulous! Thanksgiving in Canada has long passed and nope, I didn’t do the cooking (that would have been scary…for everyone!). I did, however, make a salad *grin*
Hugs~carol
Jeanne-Marie Martin says
I will actually be cooking this year! But just for my little immediate family. Other relatives are visiting elsewhere this year so this is our off year and I’m looking forward to a small meal and not a ton of cleaning up and getting to enjoy time with my kiddos on Thanksgiving.
sally says
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK but I will be cooking Christmas dinner!! we are Pescetarian so Sea Bream roast is a big fav!!!
Pennie Glasser says
I love the stamps and I love the video
Woendi Levitt says
WOW!!! Love everything about this card. You creating the chick in the sleigh was GREAT! I thought it was the original stamp. Also, the background is AWESOME!!!
Thanksgiving? My mother usually cooks but the past couple years its been difficult to get the family together due to 1/2 of us in TX and the other 1/2 in CA. In addition, I travel for work and get little time off. This year several of us in the RV park are going to do a smorgasboard. My “road” family is as important as my “blood” family.
PS-TY for the video
Jennifer T says
I love STAMPING Bella! Beautiful card Kathy. I cooked the whole she-bang- turkey, ham, potatoes (sweet and mashed) stuffing, succotash, lemon meringue pie and pecan pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday!
Terry B. says
I will be with family this Thanksgiving, and I won’t be cooking. Thanks for the chance to win!
Bunny says
I am unable to cook this year. I’m a little sad as when you are used to family traditions it seems to throw everything off.
Fay Salkus says
I live in Canada so we have already had our Thanksgiving in October! No I didn’t have to do the cooking, Happy Thanksgiving though to all who live in the US!
Kathy Racoosin says
Thank you. 🙂

Judy B says
I’m not sure if I will be cooking the turkey or not this year, but I always do side dishes and pies regardless of whose house we go to. I look forward to spending time with my family and enjoying the day. Thanks for sharing the video with us, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones.
Joyce says

Nancy Wilcox says
Thanksgiving is at my daughters house this year but I’ll be doing a lot of the cooking.

Not sure yet. . . but probably will. I usually make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner after doing a run or bike ride.
Lisa Zurek says
I am cooking dinner this year. My father in law is not doing well (he has a rare form of leukemia) that he’s been fighting for over two years. Our family thinks this may be his last holiday and we want him to be as comfortable as possible. I will have lots of decorations and a Martha Stewart dinner table set to perfection for him. It’s a lot of work but I’m glad to do it for him.
Kathy Racoosin says
How special and loving. You are capturing the true meaning of Thanksgiving. Sounds like it will be picture perfect too. 🙂
Beverly Atkins says
Not cooking here in NC. It’s just me and my sweet dog. I usually go out with a friend. But this year a friend is bringing me leftovers. Isn’t that awesome!
Gail Plaskiewicz says
You guys should both do this more often! I get Stamping Bella’s blog too so you will find me there. In fact, I won something on her blog this year. You guys are great at coloring and her stamps are so dang cute and I want them all and…. What more can I say? I loved what you did with those chicks and chicks are my favorite color although not always. At the Big E they have a Farmarama building and they have a chick hatchery. I actually saw one hatch out of the shell and it was so cool! Of course when it came out I apologized for the fact that I was having chicken that night for supper. LOL Anyway, they aren’t all yellow. Some were brown, some were brown and white and some were black and white and some were yellow. I wonder if like babies blue eyes that don’t always stay blue for their whole lives if the color on chicks changes when they get older? Something to ponder on. Anyway, you did an a-ma-zing job on your card and those chicks never looked cuter. I have to watch the video.
You asked about Thanksgiving. Our house has always been the only house big enough to handle Thanksgiving. By that I mean we have the table with the leave in the middle so it seats a lot of people. Not as many as the Osmonds and Duggers have but you get my meaning. Both of my sisters have small houses so there is no room for all of us. There are 5 in my family & my sister has 2 kids and then there is my cousin Darren who won’t be in FL for Thanksgiving so he’ll be here. Last year my youngest sister got a turkey for Thanksgiving from where she works (she has a great boss) so we don’t have to go out and buy one, it’s in our freezer. Now all we have to buy is white potatoes, sweet potatoes and a veggie and crescent rolls and make some amazing gravy for that turkey. Am I making you hungry yet? I know I’m making me hungry! LOL
Paulyne says
Cute, cute, cute!! I just ordered a few of their stamps. Can’t wait to get them. And no my lovely Step-daughter is cooking this year.
Pooja says
Super cute n Adorable card !! We don’t celebrate Thanks giving here in India 🙂
Annette Hindes says
My husband fries a turkey & makes some some sides.
My mom makes stuffing & gravy.
My mother-in-law makes broccoli casserole & pumpkin pie.
I open a can of cranberry sauce; does that count as cooking??
{I take care of the table decorations & name tags}
Kathy Racoosin says
I want your job. So you should have plenty time to yourself to color. LOL 🙂
Jane Crisci says
Hoping to be going out for Thanksgiving dinner. I cook every year.
Anita says
I will be cooking and will get some help from Ina Gartin, Make it Ahead cookbook.
barb macaskill says
This will be the first year in 28 years that I have not cooked Thanksgiving dinner. My oldest son bought his first home and plans to enlist his sons (7 & 11) to cook his very first dinner for the entire family. I have offered to help but he wants to do it all by himself! I am looking forward to passing the THanksgivind Dinner torch on to him! Excited to try his meal as he is a pretty good cook! TFS!
Kathy Racoosin says
Wonderful new tradition. Enjoy your family 🙂
Diane Loughrey says
This is the first year in 11 that we are going home for Thanksgiving. Usually, my family comes up to us, but my new nephew will be baptized that weekend. So no cooking for me this year.
Kathy Racoosin says
Good timing your new nephew has. Enjoy. 🙂
Kerry says
My family gets together Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve each year. There were nine kids- we are all grown, married with children and some of those kids are married with children! Super fun! My brothers cook turkeys and my sisters and I make the appetizers, sides & desserts!
Michele says
You are so insanely talented…so talented. I just LOVE watching your videos; you do amazing work; thanks for sharing your talents with us!!
Donna Rinckel says
I can’t wait to color today. I’ve never seen the tip to shade the chicks like that. I will definitely be trying that. I don’t cook an entire meal for Thanksgiving but I usually contribute a side dish of some sort. We usually travel for Thanksgiving holiday so we might have our meal at home on the weekend. That way we still get left overs. LOL! Thanks Kathy for all the wonderful ideas. Your card today is just adorable! I want to try coloring packages like you did too. So cute and much more fun than just a plain color!
Kathy Racoosin says
If you only have to do a side dish it sounds like you’ll have some extra time on your hands to color. Thrilled to hear my tips inspired you. 🙂
Janet D says
I have hosting and cooking Thanksgiving dinner for over 40 years, and I enjoy every bit of it! I love Stamping Bella and your card is super cute!

Considering the rest of the family has all gone organic/gluten free/sugar free and all the rest of that I’ll be cooking my own “perfect” meal after joining the family for T’giving dinner of what I’m not sure, but it’ll be something chicken.
Kathy Racoosin says
LOL. My kind of woman. 🙂
Heidi says

Arianna Barbara says

Cherri B says
This card is so super cute! Thanksgiving this year is at my brother’s house and everyone contributes. So I will be cooking but not the entire dinner!
Janet Trapp says
My mom likes to have everyone at her house. I always have helped and the last few years done the majority there. This year with less coming I am trying to convince my mom to just let me have it here…not in favor of it bought ahead and warmed up…yuck!
Great video and coloring!
Kathy Racoosin says
Good luck. 🙂
Pam says
Great video! Coloring as usual is phenomenal!
Alyce says
I love Stamping Bella images. This card is so cute!

Vinita Jain says
I love Stamping Bella and this is a perfect and cute image for Thanksgiving celebration and colored so beautifully! But we don’t celebrate this festival in India. But love to make cards on this theme every year! Thanks for the chance to win!
Sheri K says
Another great video and card, thanks Kathy! Yes, I’m cooking for Thanksgiving, I’m a bit spoiled because hubby enjoys making the turkey, so I haven’t cooked one in 31 years! But I prepare the sides, am famous for my sweet potato casserole, with pecan crust. Cooking is a family affair–but we are smaller in numbers, with daughter and hubby moved to the Midwest, other family members not making the drive , so we will be small in numbers. But a new person–son’s girlfriend, who is bringing light to the family–along with plans to bring a dish from her family traditions. My happiest times is when my kids, hubby and I are cooking in our kitchen together–so much fun, with lots of jokes and fun.
Kathy Racoosin says
Sounds perfect! Enjoy. 🙂
Barbara Mcdonald says
We’ve eliminated the stress of cooking dinner and we go out now for Thanksgiving. All of us women in the family are more pleasant during the holiday because of it. And we are all able to relax and spend time together all day

Kathy Thisted says

What a wonderful day, Kathy’s back with a video, we have a president elect to take over in Jan. and best of all I am home and able to relax and color. Love this card and the detail of doing a stencil after the fact. Always a pleasure to watch you work Kathy. Angela Brown says
I’m cooking but just for me and my husband this year!
Regina says
Loved watching your creative process with coloring, adding white, cutting it out… and the result is even more fun than your initial idea.
I haven’t tried blending this way (using acrylic block), but now I’ll give it a try. Hopefully I won’t forget about it 🙂
Haven’t seen these brushes before, maybe a regular watercolor brush will do the same…
About adding too much white… I used to do the same and had okay results with coloring again over white areas. The downside is that white ink stains marker tip…
And about Thanksgiving… it’s a new Holiday for us, but we are trying to celebrate it in a traditional way. We’ll get a rolled stuffed turkey breast and roast it in the oven.
Marlyn Rojas says
In my country we do not usually celebrate thanksgiving, I’ll probably be cooking something for Christmas
Karen B. says
Such a sweet card! I am 38 years old and have never cooked a turkey, but I will sure be baking pies for Thanksgiving!

We will all be cooking…dinner at daughter #2 & hubby, with extras by daughter #1 & hubby..and myself. The twins live with their spouses and children “Out West”, so we’ll just be yakking off and on all day. They’ve figured a way to play video games on the tv online, so we all can join in on our iPhones or iPads. Lots of laughing…and football, of course.

I just love your idea to pull another birdie in the sled! Great tips on changing the thickness of the outlines and doodles. I could have sure used that tip yesterday when I felt enormous stress over the election. You’ll be able to see how nervous I was when I post the oooogly poor deer I took my frustrations out on! I have not been able to stand long enough to cook in about 10 yrs. Most of my life is spent lying on one side to color in bed due to pain and illness. Love to you and all the other crafty friends!!!! ♥
Tona says
I will be doing all the cooking for Thanksgiving.
As usual, I loved your card.
Denise Bryant says
Adorable card! Love the background and those cute chicks!

Love stamping Bella and your cards so cute.
We don’t have Thanksgiving as a tradition in Sweden – but having lived in the US we as a family like the tradition and what it stands for and will actually have our own adapted Thanksgiving – with the whole shabang and extra works so it’s Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce just the way my American Mammaw tought me and then for dessert we are doing three pies since we never can agree on the favorite so it will be Pecan, key lemon and Mammaws super secret Banana Split pie. We’ll be full for the entire weekend I’m sure 🙂
Kathy Racoosin says
Can I come for dessert??? LOL Enjoy. 🙂

I have no idea what I will be doing on Thanksgiving. I have been invited to join my son’s in-laws, but they still don’t have actual plans. My mom will be in town, but I don’t know if my sisters have planned anything. (I typically just go with the flow and don’t get too worked up making plans. I have worked more holidays than most people and have been blessed to have family who were willing to schedule the meal around my work schedule.) S0, The answer to your question is a big question mark! The little chicks are just too cute! And thanks for the tip about the packaging. I do that with my water-based markers but never thought to try it with my alcohol markers.
Heather says
I wish I could say I would be cooking for my family this year but hospitals never close. Unfortunately I will be at work this Thanksgiving.
Leanne S says
Lovely card! I cook daily.
Carol L says
I love all of the Stampingbella stamps – have a few of my own. I love what you did with these chicks – so cute! For Thanksgiving we go to my mother’s house. We all share in making and bringing the food. We are all taking on more of the staple things she always did as she is 93. We still go to her house because it just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving if we didn’t. She loves seeing the little ones that come. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!!
Kathy Racoosin says
How wonderful! Enjoy. 🙂
Samantha Coleman says
I am very blessed my wonderful husband and son are cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year!! There are only 4 of us that are going to be here this year but we should have a great time. I am in charge of all the Thanksgiving decorating.
HJ says
Love the card. So darn cute!! I will not be cooking on Thanksgiving. My hubby is the chef and I feel so blessed!! The two of us will have his wonderful Chinese Pepper Steak. Totally untraditional, but will be delicious but little clean up after the meal!!
Samantha Houp says
My house is the gathering place for holidays, so I’m always cooking. Even if I have to work Thanksgiving, we will celebrate it another day, and as always, I will be cooking . I do enjoy it, though, and it makes me feel good that I’m able to cook holiday meals for my family. Its the only time we all get together, so we have to make the most of it!
stephanie Serrano says
Awesome stuff right there! I will be cooking Turkey!
Angela Caldwell says
Hi Kathy! Love following all the wonderful creations on insta! Now onto the question at hand…yes, we will be cooking! My husband and I always do Thanksgiving at our house. One of my favorite things, is getting to cook together, which we don’t get to do very often. Yum!!
Tatiana says
Night sky with stencil! So clever and cute! As for the Thanksgiving, we are not celebrate it in Europe, but I’m very inspired to cook a pumpkin pie this year!

Super adorable card! The plan is for my parents to come to my house for Thanksgiving, so I will be cooking (and cleaning – ugh).
Moira OReilly says
Another beautiful, adorable and whimsical card Kathy!! I am Canadian so our Thanksgiving was in October (it is the second Monday of October). A few years ago, we replaced the traditional dinner with a family brunch, followed by a game afternoon. Nobody cooks and we all have fun LOL 🙂
eva says
I am from Spain and live in the UK and as far as I know in neither of those countries we celebrate Thanksgiving, so I won’t be cooking. But I know my sister will, because she is on Holiday travelling around USA 🙂

NO WAY am I cooking !!! LOL, I don’t cook and have never cooked, I told my husband on our first date ( because I knew he was the one ) that I don’t cook, and will never learn to cook, so he would be clear on that and 17 years later I have never been in that kitchen true to my word. My husband is a PRINCE as you can tell.
Kathy Racoosin says
You sure do have a PRINCE. You are aslo a smart woman. LOL 🙂

Well I think I should give a small backstory. Growing up while my grandma was alive we always had thanksgiving dinner. Then that stopped when she left us. But, I got married at 23 and my husbands family would gather at his grandmothers house. Everyone nieces nephews, uncles 1st and 2nd cousins. Even ex’s would show up for Mommy Jackson. The wonderful thing is that after she left us, it continued on in her honor. So yes, I’ll prepare something to take and add to the feast. I’m blessed to have my family join us as well (mother, brothers) so it’s all good.

Your card is gorgeous. No thanksgiving down here so no cooking either. Saving it up for christmas ☺

The little chicks are so, so adorable! In my family, my husband and I always host Thanksgiving but everyone brings pieces of the dinner. Thanks Kathy!
Mary-Anne V. says
Since we celebrate both the Canadian and American Thanksgiving for the Canadian Thanksgiving I cook the food with my mother. Then for the American Thanksgiving this year we are hosting but it’s potluck so everyone else brings the food. Adorable cards…great images to colour.

Hi Kathy:-) Great card, loved to watch your process:-)
As for the cooking, we don´t celebrate Thanksgiving here, but I do love cooking in general.
jengd says
My mom wasn’t up to making dinner the past year or two so my aunt and I stepped in and took over the kitchen. Now that mom is gone, we’re still “co-hosting” dinner at dad’s since it’s still somewhat the central location for the family to meet. We actually talked on the phone yesterday to plan the menu and figure out who’s going to do what since we assign several dishes to people who live locally. She and I live 2 and 6hrs away respectively so we can’t do it all on our own.
Carolyn E says
We’ll have our usual 2…lunch at my family’s home, which I bring a side or 2 plus desert. And dinner at my in laws which I bring the same! This year we’ll have company at my home the Tuesday before which we’ll have a smoked with some non traditional sides!
Beverly Parkison says
Can’t get any cuter than these chicks.
Lindsey-NY says
I will be joining my husband’s large family in Ohio where everyone contributes. I will be bringing fresh cranberry orange relish and stuffing.
Essie says
New job, no time for our usual hosting of TGiving for 10-13 people at our home–so we’re still hosting, but at a restaurant. And I’m PSYCHED—more time for crafting!
Bernice J says
Kathy, we already had our Thanksgiving here in Canada…and yes, I did all the cooking! But I didn’t mind. My adult kids and their spouses were here and that’s what counts!
TracyM #6773 says
CONGRATULATIONS on being Guest Designer Kathy 🙂
ADORE the images, colouring and scene of your card – WOW!!!
We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia but there is sure to be the usual cooking for meals at our house. We’re looking forward to having the family gather together for Christmas … getting close to counting the sleeps now!!!
THANK YOU for the inspiration and the chance to win.

My husband is going to cook the turkey. I will be cooking pies all TG week. My girls cook too and help it all come together. My mom will be making salad, cranberry sauce and a dessert. Great coloring tips, Kathy! Thanks for all you share!

This year will be a new tradition for us. My daughter is a college student in Eastern Washington she just moved into her own apartment. So my daughter and her roommate are doing thanksgiving this year, with a little help from mom and dad I’m sure but looking forward to it. Adorable card Kathy

I like the stamp set, it’s a bit different, and I love it.
Laurie DiGregorio says
I color much better than I cook, so I’m in charge of pies and decorations!
Sandra Bannert says
Love your card and the chicken! We don’t celebrate thanksgiving (germany), so I don’t have to cook something special 😀
Nancy Vondra says
Those chicks are so cocky and cute! They’ll be dressing up someone’s holiday! Our tradition was moms house til everyone was too far away. My girls and I still had our Thanksgiving there til she passed. Now since we live from 200 to 900 miles away from each other we do what we can. This year will have my girls at their paternal grandfather’s. I’ll be at my husband’s family a few miles away. Hopefully they will be able to stop by for a bit coz my husband’s mom will be there, too! It’s tricky. I will see them and spend time with them but not necessarily on Thanksgiving day.
Nikki Winters says
Your coloring is amazing. I really enjoy your post.
Thanksgiving for us is our usual, kids even tho grown want all the same dishes. Turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, broccoli casserole, freezer corn or corn pudding, orange salad and of course, cushaw pie yum!
