Hello Friends! How are you today? It’s day 18 and I am super excited to be a guest on the WPlus9 blog today. I had so much fun creating a window card using the beautiful stamp & die cut called Kind Soul. Florals are my favorite stamps and I am totally in love with this one.
Unfortunately the stamp seems to be sold out everywhere and I am sure it will be back in stock soon and it’s totally worth the wait. LOVE the size .. perfect for a 4×6 card.
Using the Kind Soul stamp as a background and as a focal image reminds me of a pretty piece of fabric or a page out of a coloring book. Adding vellum to the background gives it a soft elegant look and off sets the dark sentiment banner enhancing the center image. (that’s a mouth full hahah)
The background was colored simply and the center flowers were colored with Copic markers and colored pencils accents. Did you see the 25% off Copic markers with code MARKERSALE.

To begin I die cut Kind Soul on some 110 lb white cardstock and stamped the flowers with Copic friendly ink. Stamp the flowers several times to fill up the background. Color the background with some markers without any shading. When finished use a rag and some Copic Blending Solution to add texture to the background. Dab the rag on to the colored areas and you have instant texture. When dry die cut some vellum and glue onto the background.
Flip the panel over and add some foam adhesive (to the floral background) and add to a folded card base.
Next ….. stamp, color and die cut the flowers . Color them like the background (without any shading … quick and easy)
Pull out those colored pencils you have tucked away and sharpen the tips. Add some shading to all the flowers and some details with lines. Add dots with a white gel pen to the centers of a few of the flowers.
The sentiment I used is stacked with two lines and I wanted a long sentiment for my card. In the past I would cut the stamp and I saw a trick that Jennifer Mcguire did.
To accomplish this look you want to emboss the entire sentiment (stamping with Versa Mark ink) add your embossing powder and use a brush to brush away the 2nd part of the sentiment “and beautiful soul”. Stamp the sentiment again inking & embossing the sentiment again and this time use your brush to remove the first part of the sentiment “you have a kind” . Trim your cardstock and trim the ends to make a banner.
Add a pop of colored cardstock on the inside and adhere your sentiment with some foam tape.

I absolutely love this card. And you’re right that stamp is so hard to find right now. I can not wait to get my hands on it. Jennifer McGuire did a beautiful card also,with this stamp. Love the recessed look of these beautiful florals, Kathy, and I really like your idea for creating a quick background and then adding a layer of vellum for a softer look. I’ve been playing with my coloured pencils this past week but have yet to try it in combination with alcohol markers. BTW, I am using a KUM automatic long point sharpener (the ‘automatic’ refers to an automatic stop). It has two separate holes for sharpening the wood and the lead. Incidentally, this is also one of the favourites of a professional artist who is teaching a Craftsy class I’m taking.

Holy smokes girl!! What a fabulous card!!! First of all–what a fab design! The way you used the vellum is new for me and I love it!!! Secondly, the amount of dimension you achieve with your pencils is fascinating!! Thirdly, I paused your video at a point to see the difference between one of the flowers (that look like Morning Glories to me) that you had just finished versus one not yet done, is just amazing!! Great video. I love seeing the flowers come to life. You have so many awesome tips and love the copic / pencil look. I can not tell you enough how inspiring you are. I find when I am creating .. what would Kathy do.. I love the way you created the card also. Doing the background and vellum then adding the focal piece in the negative part vs. being raised. The idea of using the stamp and brushing away the other part of the sentiment and re-stamping the rest of the sentiment and brushing away is a great idea.. I follow Jennifer but must of missed that part. I hate cutting stamps apart or putting a tape over it and stamping. Thanks again for taking time to inspire.
