Hello Friends, It’s Day 24. and I am here to announce that it’s Friday lol. I hope it’s been a good week and that you have some fun plans for the weekend.
Spotlight coloring … I am pretty sure you have heard of it? Here is an example that I did two years ago! Basically you are highlighting an image to color and the rest of the area is not colored. Power Poppy’s stamp set, “Artful Display” is perfect for spotlight coloring and for creating a fun background colored or not. I added the vase of flowers to the collection of plates from this stamp set.
I am a collector at heart and I have always loved plates. My sister in law once told me I don’t need any more plates for the rest of my life….or something like that. Well as you might imagine that only encouraged me to keep adding to my collection. My new thing is small crystal appetizer plates … love.
Have a great day and thanks so much for popping in . Hugs, Kathy

Oh, OK…I’ve been spotlighting when all along I thought I was just giving up mid-project because I didn’t like where it was going. 🙂 I’ll revisit my pile and see if they look different now. I do like the effect you achieved. Have a good weekend. Lots of March Madness basketball on tap, so I should get some coloring done. My tulips are about ready to bloom and I’d love to have an orange pitcher like this one to put them in.
Kathy Racoosin says
LOL. Yes Lucy, go revisit those piles of unfinished coloring pieces (which we all have, by the way) and try this technique. I have seen this technique be popular, as of late, on IG. It really accentuates and makes the item you colored, POP! Happy coloring!

Gorgeous!
Marcie Lovett says
I love that. Sometimes I feel like I’m not finished if I don’t color every single image.
Kathy Racoosin says
Turn it into a spotlight card and no one will even notice! LOL 🙂
Bobbie says
Well Kathy I had to go look for you today, for some reason I never received an email. Love the idea of spotlighting a part of the front. lol Sometimes that’s the only part I get done lol.
Kathy Racoosin says
Well take those that you’ve already done and turn them into a card!!! Now they are all finished! LOL 🙂

Love the colorful flowers against the awesome vase. Great color contrast. The wall of plates and leaving just black and white is perfect.
Today I stamped up some images and will put in a baggie and color when I get time. Maybe sit at the kitchen table vs. my craft room and see different lighting/natural light. I think I need to do more masking and create more of a scene like this card you just did. Starting small first I guess is best. Thanks for the inspiration.
Question.. with my color pencils I have a blending pencil .. should I use it or not? and if so should I use it when I am done or during after each color? I am confused on what to do and should it be sharp or more of a chisel end?? thanks
Kathy Racoosin says
The blending pencil can be very handy. You shouldnt have to use it after each color, unless you want to. It is helpful when you’re blending two colors together. For example, if you add a dark pink in a nook and crannie of a flower petal then color light pink over it, you can then go back with the blender to soften the edges and blend the two shades together. The blender pencil just contains wax and no pigment color, so you dont need it as sharp as if you were using color. The tip really depends on personal preferance. Hope this is helpful!
Billie A says
Thank you so much for the comment on the blender pencil and how to use it. You’re so helpful. Thank you.

Very cool! I think I’ve only tried spotlighting once and was not happy with it. It felt unfinished, but yours looks amazing so I will try this again! Thank you for always inspiring!

Oh, Kathy, YOU are amazing! I so love everything you do and just encourage us to COLOR, COLOR, COLOR…something I absolutely LOVE to do…haha! But truly, this is such a beautiful set, and I love how you’ve left the dishes black and white to really make the pitcherful of tulips pop! Beautifully done and so inspiring! Hugs!

I’m with you on that collecting thing. My mom once told me that I didn’t need to buy more books because I had enough already. LOL! Seriously, how can you ever have enough books??? Or plates, or stamps, or coloring mediums, or fabrics, or… ;-D
