Hello Friends, How are you? It’s day 30!!! Omg!! I can’t believe how these coloring challenges seem to go by so quickly. I had a blast viewing all your creativity and reading how making time for yourself has been a positive experience for you like it is for me :). It’s music to my ears when you mention the calming effect of coloring. You all have been so kind and supportive of my 30 day coloring challenges and words can’t begin to express my gratitude.
I do have to apologize that posting in the FaceBook group was just to much for me. FB is a place I never visit and I wanted to be able to be a supportive person in the group but, every day I thought I could and then it just never happened. So sorry. A super huge thanks to the Good Will Ambassadors for spreading love Erica, Barbara, Michelle, Elaine, Debra, Maggie, Alba, Laura & Maria & many of you for being so active and supportive and encouraging in the FB group & at Instagram. I hope we were able to reach you and encourage you. Our community is the best and the most supportive people I have had the pleasure of knowing. Thanks to each of YOU for motivating me to do these challenges.
Today I have an optical illusion card and a video. If you want to watch the video in HD click here.
When I was watercoloring this card I was thinking of you all and it made it a very enjoyable watercoloring experience. Kinda like a prayer quilt. (read more about what that is here)
Ahhh flowers … flowers! This challenge I have used more flowers than any other of the 30 day coloring challenges & I still want to color more flowers. I try to mix things up during the challenge but… oh well lol that didn’t happen.
To create my optical illusion I used “Vintage Tea Cups” and “Bamboo Rose” from Altenew.
Distress ink was used for the background and the vintage tea cup plus the butterflies. Shaded Lilac, Seedless Preserves and Wilted Violet work so beautifully together…. plus a little Blueprint Sketch. This is the ink I used with my watercoloring.
In the video I show a few different techniques to get the soft look on the background and a more vibrant look on the tea set and butterflies.
I had to add some twine (Yay it’s back in stock!!) and double dots with a gel pen and a fine tip sharpie on the butterflies.
In closing … The last day is always so bittersweet for me …it’s like when the holidays are over and you get that let down. I want to thank you each and everyone of you for making the challenge a super fun one. Your daily visits, the comments, the participation, the support etc. etc. T.H.A.N.K. Y.O.U. from the bottom of my heart 🙂
AND … just so you know… you can continue to play along for the next few days so we can separate slowly. Also I will announce all the other winners in a few days with all of the other giveaways by Monday. Thanks again and again for everything! Big ole’ hugs and lots of love to you all, Kathy xoo
P. S. The Winner for DAY 22: A $30 gift certificate to the Altenew store is Donna Rinckel. Super congrats to Donna!

What a fun spin on spotlight colouring, Kathy. Wish I had time to watch the full video now, but that will have to wait. It’s hard to believe this is already the last day of the colouring challenge. Thanks as always for inspiring and motivating us to get colouring. You’re the best!

What is stunningly beautiful card and an amazing technique! you always bring the freshest , the newest, the brightest and the best to your challenges ! Thank you for putting this together and for guiding and encouraging us 🙂 I know I would not have colored every day had it not been for this challenge and now I am 30 projects and 30 cards further so a great big thank you!!! What a blessing you are and the lives you have enriched! Xoxo
Kathy Racoosin says
Whooo hooo! Congrats for finishing 30 projects in the 30 days! That’s a huge feat!

D.Ann C says
What a gorgeous grand finale! That perched butterfly is fabulous!!
Moira OReilly says
At the risk of repeating myself Kathy, this edition of the challenge has been the best so far (I probably say that each time LOL). Your inspiration, commitment, dedication, talent and support are boundless. I was able to colour almost every day if only for a few minutes so I am quite happy. I am first and foremost a scrapbooker but definitely an equal opportunity crafter and enjoy my cardmaking as well. I only completed about 10 images but that is good for me. I am most happy about having practised black outlining and white accents – I have master neither but am having fun practising. I played more with my Prismacolor pencils this time around but still have a bit of a heavy hand with them LOL. My Copics continue to be my first choice. OH gosh I do go on…. Finally, I am so happy you mention the next few days as I have “booked” myself an extra long weekend (starting today) of crafting. Hugs Kathy xoxo <3
Kathy Racoosin says
Whooo hoo Moira! So happy you played along and had fun with the challenge. Even more, happy you’re continuing to craft even though it’s done! Thank you for your sweet words, being an avid follower and commenter and for participating in the challenge.

Congrats and a huge thank you for another 30 day coloring challenge! You are so inspiring and your artistic talent is unrivaled. You are truly a joy to listen to and learn from. Today’s card is beyond lovely! The teacup and butterflies really pop and you always share so many tips to elevate our coloring. I hope you know how much we all appreciate your time and effort! I am already looking forward to your next challenge, after you have had a chance to catch up in your own life as I’m sure you must! I have been going back through earlier challenges so I definitely have enough to keep me busy until the next one!

Thank you for yet another gorgeous card, Kathy! And you could never talk too much in your videos (and never add music…I must prefer to listen to you), and I love the “nooks and crannies” and the “sweet spot” tips that always remind me…of their importance…and of you! You are a joy and real inspiration, and I love all your techniques and coloring! Great variety of cards and media you’ve used. Hugs and love to you! xoxo

Becky Green says
I LOVE this “Illusion” painting you’ve done Kathy! I think reminding people of the “Sweet Spot” is good! I need that reminder every so often too! LOL AND the dots on the butterflies, “double dotting” look like actual piercings on the butterflies. Not to mention, your painting of them, they look like parchment! This came out SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! “THANK YOU,” Kathy for this challenge! It has been SO MUCH FUN!!! I’ve TRULY ENJOYED doing this challenge!!! 😉 I tried some new things this challenge too!!! 😉 “THANK YOU!!!!!”
Kathy Racoosin says
I am so happy you had fun doing the challenge! Thank you so much for your sweet comments. They are so greatly appreciated!

P.S. I should tell you too, Kathy, I thought about your antique dish for your pencil shavings…… & remembered, I had an antique dish that had lost it’s top… PERFECT for pencil shavings! Now, it sits on my desk! 😉 THANK YOU!!! <3

Whooo hooo!
Linda W. (ScrappinBari) says
Stunning tea cup and flower card, Kathy! Just love how that tea cup pops out from the panel and has such gorgeous shading!! Wow – Day 30 already and thanks again for all the inspiration! I managed to color every day this time and now have plenty of colored odds and ends to make cards (although some bits have made it onto cards already!). I had such a great time coloring with you!!
Kathy Racoosin says
Whooo hooo Linda! That awesome that you colored every day! Thanks so much for playing along!
Barb macaskill says
I ❤️ this card! Hoping to be able to watch the video later tonight after Jenna goes to bed. I am so glad that I have been able to play along every day this time around!
I also got into a rut of using gel pens every day and my ColorIt Mandalas 1 & 2 coloring books. They have such lovely images and their gel pens are to die for. YIf you haven’t tried them already you really should. The colors are magnificent and the refills are an exact match unlike other gel pens I have tried.
Will be posting today’s coloring later today. Thanks for putting this all together again for us! You ROCK!
Sheri K says
Thanks for a fun 30 days Kathy! I’ve been posting on FB, I have plans of finishing my April calendar page and posting it tonight. I love that you are “praying” as you color, I often have a “prayer session workout”. As I do my daily workout, I pray for people as I do the aerobics. I also watch crafting video’s before I go to bed on my TV set, thanks to my techy son and the chrome cast box, I can see all the great details on my large TV and listen and watch you coloring, Kristina and Jennifer making cards and I just love Vicky P’s accent, it calms me down and then I can get some sleep! Thanks for all that you do to inspire us.
Kathy Racoosin says
Awe, I am so happy tht we can inspire you! Thanks for your kind words.
Arianna Barbara says

Becky P. says
Wow, what a great technique. I’ve never seen that done before.
I have totally enjoyed each and every post. I haven’t posted anything, but I did made time each day for a little coloring. Sometimes it was just while I was outside with the chickens, letting them free range, I would sit at the picnic table where I could supervise them (protect them from predators) and color. Chickens and coloring, both are so relaxing.
Kathy Racoosin says
I am so happy that you made time for you each day, Becky! That is the whole purpose of this challenge as far as I’m concerned. Woo hoo, congrats!
Sue LD says
So cool with the optical illusion.
Mirella ROGAN says

Lee-Ann Kubinec says

Colleen Howell says
Amazing technique and card thanks for the daily challenge, did not get to make a card to link up. But I did do some coloring when making my cards and learned a lot of neat ways to enjoy coloring.
Jolene says
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou….for a training video of mixed watercolor techniques for those of us who are not gifted, nor trained artists! This is the BEST I have watched and it encourages me to try again….your rambling rhetoric is PERFECT as it doesn’t assume intimate knowledge of the technique…..and, the card is beautiful! Again, THANKYOU!
Tami Elliott says
Hey Kathy, I have tothankJenniferMcGuire for turning me on to your 30 day challenge! Had it not been for a plug on one of her videos I would have never found you… I too love coloring but do not get to do it every day – Life constraints ! One day though …. as you give me hope and inspiration!!
Billie A says
Thank you for the 30 day challenge. I have learned and been inspired. This card and the design going over to the tea cup is an awesome idea. I do like the idea of coloring the bg first. I will have to try this technique. Thank you for taking time to pull this 30 day inspiration together.

You’re welcome, Billie. Thank you for being an avid participant, follower and commentor. I appreciate your sweet words always.

It has been very inspiring, although I didn’t participate everyday, I did as many days as I could. I did upload my work to FB which you didn’t see, lol Thanks again!
Kathy Racoosin says
LOL, sorry but I am a true IG girl! LOL thank you for playing along though, Janet.
Avra Williams says
Thank you so much, Kathy! I colored more this month than I typically do over the course of several months! And now I have a great head start on all of the spring and summer cards I need to make. I have so enjoyed your posts and videos, and all of the beautiful projects created by the other challenge participants. And – I LOVED all of the positive feedback and encouragement from everyone! The comments and likes on instagram and facebook really mean a lot – just to know that others are taking the time to look at my work made my day. And to get comments from YOU – WOW! Thanks for all your efforts – can’t wait for the next 30 day challenge!
Kathy Racoosin says
Your sweet words mean so much to me, Avra. I am so happy you’ve enjoyed the challenge and got to be apart of the amazing cardmaking community on IG!

Dear Kathy,
Thank you and your ambassadors for this wonderful challenge and for spreading so much cheerfulness and kindness! Even if I couldn’t play along the whole 30 days this time, or even look at too many of the beautiful creations on IG, what I did manage to do really lifted me up. I think I will get back into my swing and do more coloring again sooner or later, and I’m looking forward to the next challenge 😀
Best wishes from Germany
Andrea
Kathy Racoosin says
Hello Andrea in Germany. Thanks for your kind words and for playing along on the days that you could!
Lucy Schmidt says
MAGNIFIQUE! BRAVO! ENCORE! I know we’ll be seeing you again soon, but what a wonderful 30 days it’s been watching you create and reading all the comments from people who feel the same as I do about your talent, joyous nature and generosity. What a splendid end to the 30 days. I didn’t think it would ever happen, but you’ve made me like purples and pinks. 😉 I don’t have time for FB, Instagram and all those other social sharing options, but sure do look forward to seeing a new post alert from you in my inbox. Please thank all your helpers again, too. Today’s technique was definitely something I’ve never seen anyone else do. Your talent is matched by your imagination. Thanks again–and get some rest. PS–keep the voice-over, not music. I mute music, but love to hear your narrative.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thank you, Lucy. I appreciate you be an avid follower and commentor. I always love reading your sweet commente. Bonus that I’ve turned you into a pink and purple person! LOL Also, greatly appreciate the video feedback!!!!

Gail Plaskiewicz says
Oh my gosh, the coloring challenge is over! I can’t believe its over already. I missed so much of it but that’s because my dad died one week ago on Mon. of this week. I still miss him so much but it’s getting a tiny little bit easier. He loved my coloring and was so impressed when he saw the last thing I finished coloring in his hospital room. It was so nice to see him smile. I want to scan that last picture to your site but my printer is on the fritz. It was on the fritz once before but HP fixed it. Now I need to fix it again. It keeps saying I’m not connected when it’s turned on yet I never touch any of the plugs connected to the computer.
Your card is so pretty! I love how you did that background and how it does look 3D. The challenge is so much fun and I want to be normal again. I can’t wait until that happens. In the meantime, I really do love you’re coloring challenges and what you did today. I can’t wait until I can start to color again and have fun doing it.
Kathy Racoosin says
Again Gail, I am so sorry about your father. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being an avid commentor, follower and participant.

Hi Gail! I am praying for you and everyone that loved your Dad. I am sorry for your loss. Please remember there is no set timeline on grieving. Everyone is different. It is a process. I’m so thankful your Dad saw you coloring in his room and gave you a “thumb’s up” by smiling at you and your creativity. God bless!

Hi Kathy! April 8th today and I just watched Day 30th’St magnificent video just full of surprise tips!
At first I thought the big paper was purchased. Then I realized they were part of that unbelievably beautiful set of Altenew Flower Stamps a few months ago.
I stayed confused. I thought perhaps you colored the big page and put a sheet of vellum over it to give it that faded look. Wrong again! I guessed that you colored the teacup and butterflies (with the wonderful double dots) on the vellum, or on regular paper and cut them out and attached!
I learned so many things in this one video! Then I went back to your March 28th video and blog and thought of all of your suggestions, tips and hints. I made myself a list for myself. Things such as….outline with dark color, dark color in creases and where petals meet, use a nubby rag with a bit of blender solution on bg and to add texture to items…lift it up…and down. There were over 50 items I recalled! Now, when I play, I can look over your list and make sure I remembered all of these “finishing touches!” Each tip really brings the project together and adds so much. Of course I will give you credit if I ever post a card in a challenge or something!
I took 4 of my colored images last month and made them into full cards yesterday! It was a great way to spend the day!
I am so grateful to you for these 30 Day challenges, and your time you put into your blog on a regular basis. You are inspiring, a motivator and I feel we are getting to be friends, I spend so much time listening/watching your videos! Thank you again! May He continue to bless you and yours!
