Helllooo Friends, How are you? Thank you for your comments they are always appreciated. I just wanted to touch on the fires again in case you were thinking of making a donation. Donating these days can be complicated with people and websites pretending to be a legit site. In case you want to donate a few bucks the Red Cross is always a safe place to donate. I found a good article from NBC on where to donate and another article from the NY Times and ABC’s article.
On another note are you cooking for Thanksgiving? Those birds always cause me anxiety and I am feeling it already. The part of the meal that I love to make is the oyster stew. I combine clam chowder with oyster stew and it’s pretty heartwarming and yummy.
Power Poppy has some of the most beautiful large stamps and the newest is called Chrysanthemum XL … wow that’s a mouthful lol. I took some time to mask this chrysanthemum and build the stems. Slightly curving the sentiment was super easy to follow the curve of the stem. After watercoloring the background was all the time that I was able to muster unfortunately. That’s the only frustrating part of coloring is having to stop.
Here is a one minute video explaining this project. On Day 14. I posted this on Instagram. “Not a success and hummm maybe a fail? Part of the 30 day coloring challenge is to try different things and get out those unused supplies. Still not a fan of embossing even though it’s what got me into stamping. Some lettuces have a beautiful pink vein in them so that’s why I decided to use the embossing powder. @marcellahawley from @powerpoppy is one of my favorite illustrators hands down. I feel like I didn’t do this stamp justice and will be inking it up again. Thanks for sharing all of your coloring it makes me so happy. #thedailymarker30day #powerpoppy. P.S. I’d like to keep my embossing powders in vintage syrup decanters.”
Have a great day and see you tomorrow. Hugs, Kathy

Hi Kathy, I saw day 14 on Instagram and didn’t comment there because I thought you would post it here. It didn’t came and I just a few minutes ago I wanted to post my comment on Instragram but thought let’s have a look on her blog first and here it is.
Oké so this was what I wanted to write about it:
I think that it isn’t the embossing itself, it’s the vibrant colour you used on a very busy stamp. I know you wanted to use a different supplies for this day but as I see it, you still want to do what you do normally, your awesome shading and nooks and crannies, and that is something you almost can’t do with this embossing. Perhaps trying white embossing powder with a flower with more open space to start with.
This is what I thought immediately when I saw your video but perhaps you see it otherwise. Although I think they are not a Kathy-like coloured image I still love them both, the second one a little more than the first one.
Day 16 – A mouthful name for a XL stamp and what a stamp! Love it, I love flowerstamps and this one is awesome. I like that the flowerhead, stems and leaves are all seperated from each other, it makes the stamp so more versatile.
You started great and yes nothing is more frustrating then that you have to stop colouring when it’s going great.
Hope to see more tomorrow, thanks for today ( and day 14)

Thank you for your advice, Henriette! Sometimes I just need to walk away from a project and when I come back to it I see it differently or know just what I *think* I need to do. I am always appreciative of your thoughtful comments and ideas! You are so kind 🙂

Hi Kathy…it’s Julie McCammon from Copic Bootcamp. I love your blog. Did you get the package I sent? Copic color matching swatch book? I hope all is well with you. That sure was a good four days of learning.

I appreciate that you are willing to share what you might consider the less than perfect pieces. I like your honesty! You are just like us. 🙂 I like that you stretch yourself and try different things. I hope you can make it work to your satisfaction or scrap it if you need to and try again. Hugs!
Kathy Racoosin says
Yes, Jeanne, I am just like all of the other crafters in blog land! I think sometimes we can learn more from our mistakes, and sometimes they evolve into something we like 🙂
Teresa Doyle says
These are both really cool images and of course, you coloured them beautifully.
Kathy Racoosin says
You are very sweet, Teresa! Thank you so much 🙂

Your oyster stew sounds yummy. My husband and I have the Thanksgiving meal down now after all of these years cooking it together. Maybe your husband should take over the turkey. My husband does a darn good job on ours but I make the stuffing and gravy. I get where you were going with the pink cabbage. I love the giant mum and can’t wait to see how you finish it and make it a masterpiece. Hope your Thanksgiving is awesome like you!
Kathy Racoosin says
Dot, the oyster stew is a family tradition. I think you are awesome too 🙂

I have to disagree with you about donating to the Red Cross. Your money will go to paying their executives. You will do more good to donate through Go Fund Me sites which will go directly to those who need it.
Kathy Racoosin says
Thank you for your input, Mary! I appreciate the advice 🙂

Kathy, this looks like it will be a VERY NICE piece when finished! I also LOVE how you store your embossing powders! ;)SO CREATIVE! Your crafting room MUST BE SO INTERESTING!!! 😉 The pictures I’ve seen, IT IS! 😉
As for the Turkey, I use a big Roaster & the turkey ALWAYS comes out PERFECT!!! No worry here! 😉 It is the side dishes that take some time; I’ll begin a few days before preparing them, & popping them in the refrigerator till the big day. Found a new home made roll recipe I tried out yesterday & it is a winner for Thanksgiving day! 😉
Kathy Racoosin says
Becky, what a lovely compliment! I enjoy my crafty space.
Your turkey roaster sounds amazing; happy Thanksgiving 🙂
Sheri Kempke says
Oyster stew sounds great! I am truly blessed as my dear hubby loves to make the turkey and stuffing. I make the gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole. Of course we will have cranberries, I already found a very small gluten free pie at the store and everyone else loves the Costco pie My son will bring a veggie dish, my bro brings the wine. I take care of the table setting, etc. Thanks for sharing your coloring–even the genius coloring mentor doesn’t always like everything which thanks for being “real” with us. It’s practice and helps work our brain and benefits our health. Happy Thanksgiving Kathy!
Kathy Racoosin says
Sheri, it is so much fun teaming up and cooking together! And I love Costco apple pie too. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving 🙂

Marcella is so great. Power Poppy is one of my favorites. She has some really beautiful poinsettias right now. I don’t think this was a fail by any stretch. We each have our own eye…. this one didn’t do it for you. I can totally relate. Happy Thanksgiving and yes I cook a 20lb. Bird with all the trimmings and will have 6 adults and 2 small girls. So looking forward to the day.
Kathy Racoosin says
Anne, I agree with you completely! Those poinsettias are amazing.
A 20lb bird; wow. I know you will have an amazing feast 🙂

Being an Aussie, we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving but I always love to read about what people are planning! I love your colouring and although I think the image looks great, I also love that you are willing to talk about what you consider are your ‘failures’!
Kathy Racoosin says
Your kindness makes me smile, Gab! Happy non-Thanksgiving lol 🙂

I love large stamps because there is more to color but my child sized hands don’t. I have this one stamp that I love for Christmas but my hands don’t. I have stamped it 4 times already & each time the whole stamp has not shown up on the paper. I want to use it but I am having so many problems with it. What can I do? I love that flower stamp & what you are doing with it. I can’t wait to see it finished.
I used to do a lot of embossing. I learned before I got an embossing gun you could use a toaster, a light bulb, or a burner on your electric stove, not gas, anything that would heat up the powder. I tried a few of those but because they got to hot for my fingers I made sure I got an embossing gun. I thought if I had something in my house I wouldn’t have to buy a gun but you do need an embossing gun. My sister used to emboss on velvet. Because of a freezer accident & I had to use my gun to defrost some of it, I blew out my gun & I had to buy a whole new one. I haven’t used it yet & I want to! I so totally wish we lived closer so we could play (craft) together. I have to look at what you did better but I like it! If you don’t like it, just redo it or add some sequins or embellishments to make it look better. That’s what I’ve been known to do. I can’t wait to see what you’ve done when you finish everything.
I’ll bet your oyster stew is great but I don’t do oysters. Because our house has a huge dining room table we have it at our house. We do the turkey, the mashed potatoes, a side of something but I am not sure what, frozen corn because my nephew loves it, crescent rolls & what ever my 2 sisters bring. There will be the 4 of us as my dad died last year, my cousin Darren, and probably my nephew Alex will be home from college in MA. My niece is in FL & she is a dancer with the Orlando Ballet so it’s Nutcracker time & she won’t be home. I can’t wait to have that turkey! We usually get a fresh one & the turkey we got last year was from a farm in the town where my middle sister lives about 1/2 hour away. It was yummy! Happy Thanksgiving & Happy Card Making!
