The stamp I am coloring today is really cool and diverse from Sweet Sentiment and the stamp set has really different sentiments!
Let’s talk coloring that’s more enjoyable. Actually I have been prepping this post for many days and just finished coloring this beautiful girl with the fro. You might ask why a afro? Well I am just sick about it really.still sick about it. This coloring community is such happy place and a very diverse community that I love. When someone hurts someone in our community it hurts me too.
Ponoco Pam spreads joy and is such a happy and energetic soul and she received a cruel message on Instagram and I think you might agree with me. Below is a screen shot of what Pam wrote on Instagram in the photo below.
Pam gave me permission to share this and I think she has edited what she originally wrote … I think it hurt her to much. .
This is the beautiful coloring and post from Pam that prompted that cruel and insensitive comment. Such lovely coloring.

When I am traveling I always talk about coloring hair and how I dread it. Most people don’t like coloring hair either based on my limited research.
Coloring her afro was the most fun and super easy. I started by making scribbles or little tornados with the darkest color on her head. (I color plucked my markers) I used the medium marker color to soften the dark color making more scribbles filling in more space. I added the lightest color repeating the scribbles and leaving a tad bit of white for highlights. To finish I added just a bit more of the darkest color with more scribbles.
This is some bonus coloring and I went a little to heavy with the make up. If you want to give Pam a little love I am sure she would appreciate it. Have a good weekend and I am praying you all stay healthy and that there isn’t any layoffs and such. See you tomorrow. Hugs, Kathy

Thank you so much for sharing this, Kathy! Some people!!! It’s things like this that drive me to love my animals more and more. Checking out her IG posts and man she has some vision and the talent to bring that forward. Her image transformations are fantastic. There are always gonna be THOSE kinda people who aren’t happy in their own skin and are just outright hateful and jealous of anyone that isn’t just as miserable. Thankfully I see much more of the opposite….especially when they are put into the spotlight. Kindness and love will always outshine and I hope it’s poured out en-masse to Ponco Pam ♥♥
Thanks Brandi!!!!! I love our community and hope the hateful few find it in hearts and pocketbooks to pickup a few darker shades of marker and pencils and give them a try on skin tones and hair.
I began making cards 3 years ago and the first thing I noticed was the lack of stamps and marker coloring in African American skin and hair tones. I purchased a few to practice with and made an effort to post them and gift to those that would appreciate it. Good for you for standing up to Bigotry.

Totally agree with you Kathy. We should all be kind and love each other. It hurts me to see that there are so many narrow-minded people in this world still… why mess with such a beau thing? Anyway blows me away, but let them live in their little world. I love that Pam colors and alters her stamps to represent her and those she loves. I love making custom cards and if this wasn’t a possibility I guess I could not make any to a specific person in my family. Thank you for bringing it to everyone’s attention. I’ve started to share some of my own alterations inspired by her

There is no such thing as “a” skin color. Skin comes in many different colors and shades of colors and all are beautiful. There is enough bad stuff going around in the world today. Let’s don’t make it worse by not loving each other in all our glorious diversity.

Thank you for this post! I’m a rookie crafter and for me coloring is hard and I am in awe of your skill. Pam has a gift – un don – as we say in Spanish for coloring And for transforming them to represent her family and friends. If I could only have half her talent! I am a Caucasian woman born with very curly blond hair. Believe me the easiest way to go is a total natural look, which, back in the day, was called a “fro”. We should all feel represented in the art and crafting world. We should all feel comfortable expressing ourselves as we wish. In stamping caucasians are always portrayed with silky straight hair. I love the above stamps! But I fear if I were to buy one and color it Caucasian with blonde hair I would get chastised heavily by social media, even though that’s exactly who I am. Thank you for your post.

I just started following Pam on Instagram a few days ago and I think her coloring is so cool! It’s awesome to see how she changes the hair on the stamps she uses. There are still narrow minds in this world… when I was young I used to have my hair permed real curly, it was not only the style but I have very fine hair. The perm made it look fuller and it was easy to take care of. I loved it so… Now it is gray and I am jealous of those with a fro. Don’t forget we are all in this together, big, small, short, tall. All sizes and loads of colors. Love your beautiful lady Kathy, so jealous of her hair!

I was amazed that some crafters have such narrow minds as to disparage the fine art of one of their own. I’m not an artist nor even a very good colorist but when I received the Body Positivity stamps from the Lovely Legs collection of Colorado Craft Company, I made sure that I used many different shades for the skin tones. Isn’t that what it’s all about; putting our own creative touch on the craft we do? Now, I don’t know if I could do justice to a beautiful Afro [although Kathy’s instructions helped a lot!] but I would also never presume that only non-Afro-sporting people would like my cards. Aren’t there enough REAL problems in the world to think about?

Oh, that hair is fabulous!! I have to admit that I am Caucasian and I almost always color Caucasian skin tones and brown hair (because that’s what I look like) . I would think most people would do the same (color to look similar to themselves), but that doesn’t mean it should be an issue. It’s too bad it has to be one!

What is wrong with some people??!!! I feel so bad for Pam and think how she coloured the image is not only super creative and gorgeous but her own right to colour how ever she wants. Why do some people feel they have to tell others how to do something and share all their horrible thoughts. The phrase ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all’ needs to be shouted from the rooftops. Sending Pam lots of multi-coloured hugs!! xxxx

Thank you for this post Kathy … just because I have fair skin and green eyes doesn’t mean the whole world does – we should all be able to colour exactly how we want to colour – and I love it when people alter images to suit themselves
It is fun to see how people alter them.
I actually had to read this over several times to understand what the issue was. In a way… I guess I still don’t get it. I saw the lovely hair alteration pic shared from Pocono Pam and I thought wow, I can do something like that! This opens up so many ideas on how a simple change can make such a difference. I thought that I should get busy on practicing and testing out something new. To think that someone else saw the same and decided to send a message in anger speaks to their state of mind and not the artist. The person that sent the message could have easily reached out and asked for help to achieve the results they hope for. I have been helped so much in the short time I’ve been learning. I appreciate everyone that has given their time to reply to my comments.

Sorry I am posting so late but I love what you did with her hair! I usually look at the stamp. If it looks like a white person I make her or him that way. If not, I would probably do the other way although I don’t know how. As for blacks & whites, there used to be a show on TV in the late 60’s, early 70’s called Room 222. It was set in a high school. One of the kids on the show was white with red hair & I think freckles. He was a real red head, not a dyed one. He had the biggest afro I had ever seen on anybody!You should Google the show & see him. So anybody can have a fro, including my cousin who isn’t black, she just happened to have that kind of hair. She hated combing her hair her whole life. I hope I explained how I feel about it. Hey, I just did a blue chick on an Easter card! They don’t exist but hey, if I like Easter colors & decided to make my chick blue instead of yellow which is my favorite color in the whole wide world because all the others were yellow, why can’t I & I did! If you want to put a fro on someone, go for it! I love all of your cards & your coloring!
