Hello Friends! Woo Hoo it’s Day 1. of The Daily Marker Coloring Challenge. I mentioned yesterday instead of 30 days this challenge will be only 11 days. Some of you have been with me since the very first 30 Day Coloring Challenge or close to that … whatever this challenge is for you I am grateful you keep coming back! If you are keeping count this is the 18th challenge. With that said anytime you have taken the challenge I am proud of you for coloring more than normal.
If you have questions about the challenge you can refer to this blog post. Thank YOU all for your participation, support and for coloring. I wouldn’t do these challenges if it wasn’t for you!
Today I am talking about creative play and bringing back the joy of coloring. My hope is that you don’t stress out what to color with or what stamp to use.
Part of this abstract was painted last weekend at my sisters house. I forgot my tote with my collapsible marker bags and my stamps but, I knew that I had a watercolor block of paper and a pencil! Whew! CHECK OUT MY VIDEO HERE.
Making your own design or pattern can be super easy. Grab something that’s near by and see how clever you can be by creating a design from something.
About a month ago my husband was punching out some game pieces and I was like don’t throw those scraps away! The cardboard was so thick and nice I figured I would use it to create something with them on a rainy day. When I forgot my stamps I knew I would be pulling these scraps out.
My paint pallette is from Lydia. She splits paints so you can get more bang for your buck.
Flowers are my favorite to paint but, I do enjoy creating a pattern or interesting design. The most important part is to trust the process and not over think it. Don’t analyze what you are making just follow through.
Overlapping lines creates makes new shapes and it’s such fun to watch a pattern unfold. Challenge your children to create something for you to paint or color.
If you are curious about the pencils lines I never erase the lines or worry about them because I think they add character to the overall design.
The method I am using is wet on wet. I am painting the sections with water first then dropping in the color. My class with Online Class with Online Card Classes has a ton of videos and really explains my cheats and coloring hacks. It’s called The Coloring Challenge Road Trip Online Edition ….. it’s only $20.00 and has over 12 videos, PDF’s with written instructions etc. Click here to see more details.
Since this is Day 1. It’s a tradition to mention something that I think is very important and I like to mention it every challenge … our posture! When coloring take pause and think if you can lift your gaze and straighten you back. Using a clip board helps you prop up your project so you aren’t bending over (you can prop the clipboard on a stack of books).
There are 3 ways to share what you are coloring. If you want to join a community of coloring enthusiasts I recommend FaceBook or Instagram. On Instagram it’s about community, connecting & a great place to share what you are coloring. Tag me,Kathy and use the hashtag #thedailymarker30day. Children #thedailymarker30daykids.
The 3rd way is to link up to my blog to share your coloring. It will always be on todays post…DAY 1. each day I will link you back on this post to share you coloring.

Thanks for your enthusiasm for the challenge and I hope you know that I am just as excited as you are. Thanks for your visit and I will see you tomorrow Hugs, Kathy
P.S. If you want to share the logo (at the top of the post) when writing your blog post or on Facebook etc. that would be lovely & so appreciated!

Hmmm….the punch out boards look like they are from a variation of “Settlers of Catan.” I have a drawer full of boards like that as hubby probably has over 500 games. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them! I kept thinking that they would make fabulous mini frames of some sort. Love your art work!!

Fun patterns, Kathy. Reminds me of the circle patterns you created for an earlier challenge using tape rolls. I remember I had fun creating something similar.
