Hello Friends, How are you? Spring is in the air finally? Does it give you a kick in your step like it does for me? Here on the east coast soon we will be experiencing the return of the cicadas and I find them so fascinating and so curious how it’s going to be. I was kinda excited but, I just watched this video and maybe I am having second thoughts lol.
Enough about those red eyed critters … gah!!
Most of you know how I love large stamps for many reasons and one of them is they make art to hang. Large stamps generally are also easier to color or paint with more room to blend. This beauty of a stamp is from Simon Says Stamp called, “Floral Garden” and I just adore it.
Did you know that your misti can fit a block of paper? (Some crafters and artists like to paint on a paper block because the block keeps the paper from warping less than when the paper is removed from the block.) The size paper pad I am using measures 9 in x 12 in & it happens to be my favorite paper to watercolor on.
Fold the cover of the paper behind the paper pad. Remove from your large misti the foam pad and the paper pad to create more space for the paper block. (I have the largest memory misti) If you have the smaller misti’s use a smaller pad of paper. In the past I have had my block of paper extending overy my misit and I did have success.
In this photo you can see how the misit door closes with the block of paper inside the misti.
If you are noticing my mini ink storage ….. it is spool chest and it’s from the 1910’s. I purchased it from an antique store. I couldn’t believe the inks fit and I was thrilled. I just saw the same one on Ebay.
With my paper piercer I am pointing at the bar magnet that comes with the misti. The bar magnet fits on the edge of the cover to secure it into place if you want to double stamp “Floral Garden”. How perfect!
As you all know Warm Glow has been my favorite no line coloring ink for painting or for alcohol markers. I love that I don’t need to strain my eyes to see what I am coloring or painting.
In this photo I stamped on two different size blocks of paper. (9×12 and 7×10)
This was painting over the course of several days between my house and my sisters so it was impossible to film it. With that said I always paint the same way with the same coloring tips.
It feels so good to get out my paints and chill and just paint. One of my coloring tips is to just “Enjoy the process” and I am lucky to be able to do that most of the time.
My painting was enhanced with a few sharp pencils once it was dry. If you look close you will find the familiar areas where I left white areas and white lines. Added dots on leaves and the stamin’s.
Popped this in a floating frame from Michaels. The piece floats between two pieces of glass.
Debating to hang it here in my studio or to save it for a gift for that someone special. Either way I hope you will consider painting an art piece to frame and showcase your art.
I think I will store it on my shelf until I need a gift for someone. Wishing you all a good week and best wishes. Thank YOU for your visit today it’s always so appreciated. Hugs, Kathy

How gorgeous! I wish that I was the person that you needed a gift for and received that stunning masterpiece. =) In Spanish, cicadas are called chicharras. These are supposed to be a noisy bunch, aren’t they? It’ll pass. =) I am in San Antonio, Texas and we couldn’t start Spring fast enough after our surprise 100 year snow storm. It’s been so wonderful except that we start Summer pretty early here. Some parts of South Central Texas (us) will be in the upper 90’s and some areas will hit 100*F this week. Yay…..I think. haha haha Enjoy your Spring!

You do such beautiful work and this piece is no exception. Simply stunning!
On another note, I was doing some cleaning in my craft room and came across a tote that I use to transport stamping stuff to retreats and classes. On it are my Coloring Challenge Road Trip pins from your trip to Greendale WI. That was the best day ever and brings some fond memories. I hope that Gina finds a way to host that again even though she has given up the store. Would love to see you again.

I love how you did those flowers! I also love that stamp. I might have to check it out. I did what you did with your stamp one year. In 1981 I got my first adult coloring book. It was snowflakes. They were just way to cool & I thought why couldn’t I frame them? So I bought 2 books. 1 to color & frame & one just to color & save. I still have the books. I bought what they had at the time, lucite frames, so the picture would be what stood out. Everybody loved them when I gave them as Christmas gifts.
I’ve been posting a lot on your Facebook site. I have a job making cards for a family friend. She loved my cards that I sent for her & her hubbies birthday so she asked me to make her some cards. She said she’d rather support me then Hallmark & yes, I am being paid. However, about 2 months ago I spilled a few drops of water on my 5-6 year old computer & even though it was in quarantine for a week in a sealed bag of rice & I mopped up the water, it died. I got a new one but not before I mailed her some cards that I couldn’t take photos of with my computer because it was dead. I asked her if she could photograph the cards so I could show them to groups on Facebook. The ones I am going to mail her now are what I haven’t sent her yet.
Great Job Kathy! Whoever gets that photo will love it!

I like the frame you chose. It really makes your artistry stand out.
I, too, have been excited to see and hear the Cicadas this year. That is until I saw that video. Too creepy. I hope many fewer are underground on our property 😉

Absolutely beautiful! I’m so appreciative of your tips and lessons. I’ve learned so much already and hope to produce art that I enjoy ( and maybe others too!).

Oh my mercy. I’ll come back and leave another comment after I view your blog but I had to laugh when you mentioned Cicadas. When I was a kid, I use to find the exoskeleton remains of the Cicadas and we owned a very small mom and pop shop on the US1 before they built I-95. I used to sell those shells for .03 a piece. Big money in the early 60’s. Oh when I think of the people back then that purchased those exoskeletons it makes my heart happy to know that they would purchase them and I’m sure throw them away before they got out of the driveway. My son found a Cicada shell years ago and gave it to me. I still have him. We call him Clarence. You gotta love family stories and wonderful people who made a small child happy by purchasing the Cicada exoskeletons.

I have not seen this stamp. It is lovely as is your coloring of it. If I watercolored like you I’d hang that on my wall too. I’d actually have a wall of paintings.
You could auction it off for a charity, too. People would love it.

Anyone would be blessed to receive a framed piece of art from you, Kathy! I’m planning on painting the Flower Garden image today and only hope it can be as beautiful as yours! You have an amazing eye and it comes out through your coloring. Such an inspiration!
