Hello Friends, How are you? I hope you are finding time to color even if you don’t post or share your projects. Just coloring more than normal is what the challenge is all about. Just a reminder you don’t have to color every day and you can jump in and out as it works for you. This is a no pressure challenge! If you are coloring everyday woo hooooo I am so proud of you! If you have questions about The 30 Day Coloring Challenge you can refer to this blog post.
Yesterday I said that “It was love at first sight” with this gorgeous floral cluster called, Flora & Fauna 3 from WPlus9. Serious love! As you might imagine I was thrilled to get the time to finish this and create a card. Bonus for sure!
I have a confession …. completing the card design is a bit of a struggle for me plus the fact that I don’t enjoy that part doesn’t help me. Problem solved! Thank You to Gina K. Designs and her Master Layouts. They help me sooo much! Today I am using Master Layouts 3 and it took my card to the next level.
Each challenge I try and paint with a softer color palette and this painting is the closest I have ever come to painting with softer colors. Yay!
The circle from The Master Layouts 3 was used to add a pop of color behind the flowers and bird plus a visual element. Rather than painting the feathers I decided to cover that area with the butterfly and add the stamped banner from the Masters Layout.
To get the butterfly to stand out against the bird I cut it out and outlined the edges in black.
Do you clean your palette? I always leave any paint in my palette and that leftover paint is a nice starting point when I am ready to paint again. The paint that was left on my palette is what I used for my card today. When I finished painting the leaves I added pink to the browns to create new interesting colors for my petals. You can also call this “Color Plucking” in my book. Color Plucking is one of my top 10 coloring tips. Choosing colors randomly to save the stress of deciding what color to use.

Incredibly sweet picture/card. The butterfly on the bird is a lovely touch. The soft colors really work here. There it is people, even the greatest of them keeps learning and growing and experimenting. Wow.

Thanks for sharing you process for this beauty!! I only clean my palette when the colors becomes muddy. And you’re absolutely right on using the left over paint as a starting point.

Stunning stamp design, I can easily see why you would have fallen for this from F&F. Making the butterfly stand out the way you have is very stunning & I wouldn’t have guessed so easy. Palette question, if I’m going to be carrying on painting the next few days then I save my colours on my palette. But if I’m not likely to be painting again soon or any of the colours I have left, I either clean my palette totally or I put the spare paint into tiny scalable tubs , label them , then clean palette. I get very stressed with a dirty palette, it’s part of my OCD.

I just got this set from WPlus9. I stamped it in some contour ink, and was waiting for it to dry when I saw your post. I love this! You did a beautiful watercolor. I’m gonna try and do colored pencils on mine. Thank you for the inspiration ❤️

This must be one of my all time favorites! What a beautiful image! I love your soft colors and soft touch on this piece. Stunning! I would love to see how different one image looks with pencils, markers and paint. How do you decide what to color an image with? Or do you decide that first and then find an image to match your choice?
