Hello Friends, Anything new with you?? I’m just marveling at the speed the weeks are passing by. Today I created some lacy cards for the Penny Black blog. We are sharing our favorite stamps and this one is top on my list. For the more detailed card on the right I created a lacy overlay. The other two cards were quick and simple. Can you see the stamped image underneath the vellum?? I have fallen in love…with this kraft that just arrived in the Simon Says card kit. (see here for giveaway) This kraft paper is smoother than any kraft I have used before and it’s slightly lighter which I like much better. The top panel of my card is the kraft paper I am referring to. I ran out of it so had to use some other stuff that I wasn’t as thrilled with. More card details below.

I have yet…… until now……. found the prefect brown ink and this one is absolutely perfect. I am so excited. Usually the brown inks are to “brown” or have to much orange in them for my taste. For the underlay I used this lighter brown ink and only the white pencil (not the white gel pen) so the underlay would be soft and not steal the show. I cut out portions of the empty space on the cards front panel leaving the corners to anchor the card. (see left) |
I distressed the corners with Gathered Twigs distress ink. You can see the glossy accents in the corners that I used to adhere the vellum. It will be covered up when I pop my front cut out lacy panel. |
If you look close you can see the stamped flowers under the vellum. Soft and elegant. For some reason I just couldn’t add a sentiment. I just wanted to keep the card clean, simple and lacy. |
I hope you give this a try and if you do send me a photo or a link so I can see what you created. Off to pack for a quick trip to New York tomorrow. Thanks for your visit. Hugs, Kathy |

Side note: I’ve been unable to leave comments on the PB blog. I get a message about my email address being connected to a WordPress account and I have to sign in. Have no idea why this is happening; I used to be able to comment. Just know I check the site every day and admire what is there. Judy

Side note on Judy’s comment: I HATE the new way of commenting on the Penny Black blog! I was able to figure out how to sign in so I can comment, but it takes too long, so I just don’t come by anymore – so sorry. Sure wish they would change it back to make it easier. I’ll bet they have a lot less traffic now because of it. Hugs to you!

That vellum technique is a real beauty & I certainly know what you mean about the browns. I’ve been using my Distress Inks with VesaFine Vintage Sepia & Memento Cocoa Brown but I’m going to treat myself to some of the Memories browns which I believe are similar to Hero Arts. Your two simplified versions are just as beautiful but I’m very much a brown & white person so those draw my attention always. I do love William Morris designs & this stamp with the new PB butterfly are on my priority list.

I was totally blown away by this technique Kathy, so much so I had to come back this morning and then go give it a try.
That’s one of the few new PB stamps I didn’t buy, althouhg it’s now in the post to me. It works so well with the silhouette and open elements, but staill had to have a play and gave it a try with a Hero stamp and worked nicely.
I would love to blog them and link back to you, but will let you see first to make sure you are OK with it.

Your lace overlay shows proper skills-REAL papercrafting skills I mean. It’s really gorgeous and i LOVE the brown. I searched and searched for the right brown too and my personal favorite is Rich Cocoa dye ink from Memento. It’s my absolute first choice for stamping.
