Hello hello Friends!! Guess what … I have a video today! Of course there are a few goof ups but, I kept rolling for the sake of sharing my process. ALSO I HAVE A SUPER GREAT GIVEAWAY FROM HERO ARTS!!
For todays video I wanted to share my process and the first time using the masking fluid called, “Miskit“. Since it was my first time I was all confused because I thought it was called, “Frisquet”
Well … come to find out Frisket is Miskit and there is also Frisquet! Basically they all are liquids that you paint on an image to mask it. Once it dries and you have done additional stamping or a background you erase it. Rubber Cement is supposed to do the same thing. Watch the video to see how I used it and how confused I was…eek!! It’s a little embarrassing but, I was going with the flow.

In the spirit of the challenge I was experimenting with a new kind of background. I’m not sure if I love it but, I’m going with it. I double stacked saguaro cactus from the Hero Arts, “Stamp Your Own Cactus” to make it really tall. Enamel Accents were added to the mouse eyes to make them stand out.
and I use the Frisket to mask off all of the cactus and the mouse so I could watercolor my background. (My favorite brushes are linked in the supplies)

Love this card. Its funny how when I first saw succulents introduced on different cards I thought ‘who wants to stamp a cactus’ but as I see more and more wonderful cards I think ohh ok maybe I should give it a go. Then you go and offer a chance to win a set, woohoo. My two favourite things, Hero Art and Water colouring, could life get any better.

I have got the Daler Rowny Art Masking Fluid, and sometimes it hurts the paper… Perhaps because I let it too long on top of it, ore I was to fast peeling it off…
But generally I like the masking technic. I should do more often… 🙂

LOVE this adorable card! I started using Frisket a couple months ago and love how freeing it is! I can actually add images to other images and make them look realistic by using it! I can’t believe how much that adds to a card or project! Will post today’s card later on!

I love your uncut videos – love watching the creative process. Also love that you have the courage to take risks and possibly mess up a piece that you have been working on. That background is fabulous – when you first started putting those circles on I was a wee bit nervous for Ya – but it turned out gorgeous. reminded me of some Nevada sunsets when visiting the in-laws.

Yes… I watched the video on your 30 days preparation and you are right about the need of 10 minutes creativity each day. In my case I need 3 things in my day, my husband kiss in the morning to start the day, my cappuccino in the morning as I live in Italy (Florence) and at least 10 minutes of creativity, for that I have in my purse a block note and some watercolor pencil that I use when I have to wait somewhere.

Great job Kathy! When you first added the blue and yellow to the cactus, I thought to myself, hmm, she needs to come and look out my window a bit, but the color does change throughout the day as the light hits them. AZ light can be weird, can turn my gray living room walls to blue or green, depending on time of the day. Thanks for your encouragement, plan to get back to my coloring assignments today!

The mouse made this so cute and I really liked the colors of the cactus. Living in the desert I’d say you did a good color job on the cactus. You would be surprised at the colors. It is quite beautiful this time of year. So many flowers.

Frisket is tricky. I have had it peel up the surface of the watercolor paper (which is NOT supposed to happen, but there you have it). So don’t feel bad Kathy!

Your card turned out SUPER ADORABLE!! I too was confused about the Frisket thing…..!! I understood the whole purpose behind it but could never find the product in local stores. Then I watched a Jennifer McGuire video that said the basic rubber cement sold in your local Walgreens store would do the same thing!! Of course I bought some the next day at Walgreens but have not tried it out yet. Let you know how it goes when I do!!
Hi Kathy!! This cactus card turned out so cute! I’ve got to go get me some masking fluid now, right now. LOL I felt like it was a little bit like Millifiori? beads, you really have to look ahead as you go to see what you will have in the end. And what an interesting way to put the background in too! Sometimes it’s just fun to play!

Hey Kathy, your card is super cute. I have been using the rubber cement and it works great. You just have to be careful painting it on around the edges like you found with the Miskit. I did the same thing the first time. I don’t have a blog, not on Instagram and not terribly computer savvy or I’d show you my card I made today! BUT, I had fun and I am happy with how it turned out. Its a Thank you (gift card) for an awesome neighbour who kindly plowed us out last night after a MASSIVE snow storm! Cannot wait for good weather! LOL Thanks for the 30 day colouring challenge, it couldn’t have come at a better time!
I love how you did this! I love to use watercolors and my fave company is Luminarte because they have some of the most amazing colors. Congrats to Cheryl, I’m jealous! Love your watercolor background and I know that I’ve got some masking fluid….but I can’t find it!!! Grrrr. I love you colouring! The masking with rubber cement or masking fluid is something I still want to try as it is a great way to add a watercolor background to stamped images. I just started water coloring and there’s lots of new techniques to try out.

Thanks for the video, Kathy. I actually have frisket, but I always forget and think I need to do a mask. I love how much easier this is and how it lets you do a watercolor background without messing up the main image.

I love cacti. Living near the desert, they are ubiquitous — and we have a few in our garden as well. I’m new to watercoloring, so I’ve been experimenting as lot too. I’m not always keen on the results, but I think it’s more because I’m not used to the “look.” It feels like it’s a mistake when it’s blotchy, but then I see that’s what it’s supposed to look like. lol
Still haven’t had time to post anything new, but having fun experimenting with bits and pieces!

I just received some copic markers that I bought online and am having some ‘you are not good enough’ thoughts everytime I use them. We are our own worst enemy! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this card. Your technique is awesome. I’ve tried the liquid cement but not this product yet. I’ve never ever won anything on any of these post but it would be awesome to win this one for sure. Maybe then my hubby would get off my back and see why I do what I do. I don’t know how I missed this one the other day, but I’m glad I stumbled across it today. Love your videos, and seeing how things work. I have seen misket used on some painting shows I’ve watched, and always thought it was neat, but they never really said what it was. They were using it to block out the white, and keep the colors from bleeding over, and when they removed it, it would be the outline of chairs, or a bridge, or something they wanted to be white.. It was SO neat!
Thank you for going into more detail, but of course, now I want to go buy some and get more into water colors.. haha

Kathy, did you have any trouble removing the Frisket from your brush when you cleaned it? I’ve ruined one of my brushes (thankfully a cheap one) with it. Your card turned out beautiful, by the way. I love your background and all the depth you achieved with the masking fluid.

Heather Telford, an artist who uses a lot of masking fluid in her winter scenes, applies a little bit of dishwashing fluid to the brush before dipping it into the masking fluid. She says this little trick makes for easier cleanup afterwards. You can look her up on YouTube if you are not familiar.

Yei! These Cacti are just awesome! I secretly took up the challenge but I make it also a 10 minute per day (days are too small for the things i want to fit it there) so up to now I have managed to finish 4 things only x-) Thank you for the inspiration
Great video, cute card! I love watercolour effects! If you want to stamp detailed images use good quality drawing paper and stretch it on your board first, (i.e. wet paper thoroughly, lay on board and tape all edges), use blotting paper/clean towel to damp off excess water and let dry. For masking fluid, dip your brush into washing up liquid prior to using the masking fluid and your brush will clean off very easily.

The crazy thing is that I have masking fluid, but never remember to use it. I have taken it out of the drawer and placed it on my table. It would definitely be easier than cutting a mask from paper. I love cacti, and your card really did them justice. The background is pretty, too. Sunset colors! Thank you for sharing!
