Hello Friends, It’s me again! How was your day?
I decided it was time to put down the markers and do a little watercoloring with some distress inks. Tomorrow I might finish the background and add the sentiment.
Excited was an understatement when I saw this festive stamp set from Clearly Besotted called, “Giving Thanks“. Love how it’s so versatile! I couldn’t decide which one to ink up and I didn’t have time to create several so I clustered three of the images together.
My Watercoloring cheat is to add a halo of Copic markers around the image first. Be careful of the ink smearing… the marker touched the wheel …hello smudge! I stamped the images with a watercolor friendly ink not a copic friendly ink so that’s why the smudge happened but, it was easily corrected with a white gel pen. In case you ask this is my fav watercolor paper.
These photos are just to give you the jest of what I am doing. Use the distress inks you have on hand and just play. Put on some music and don’t think about what you are doing.
On another note Hero Arts “My Monthly Hero” kits sold out quickly and they had some major web site problems. Hero Arts always does the right thing and they opened the kits back up so everyone has a chance to purchase until Sunday. Click here to see the post. This was my card . It looks lovely! I don’t have Copics but I do sometimes use my pencils to create a halo. Pencils give a very soft effect.

GORGEOUS! Perfect fall scene! (Btw your hashtag is missing the 0 in 30)

OOPS! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Color your world. 🙂

Nice images and dittos on using a halo…sometimes I use the lightest blues I have and sometimes I use the lightest grays….just depends on what I’m coloring. Great coloring once again. Kudos….and thanks.

Lovely! Simple but really eye catching.

Very nice coloring Kathy. And who cares about a little smudge, if they look that close they are in dire need of something to do. lol Thanks for sharing.
diane bolton says
Kathy, the solution to your smudge is MFT hybrid ink. It is both Copic and watercolor friendly, stamps crisply, and comes in a variety of colors!
Kathy Racoosin says
Thanks for that tip. I’ll have check it out. I don’t need more smudges in my life. LOL Thanks for joining the Challenge and finding time for you. 🙂

Lovely card and coloring. I just bought a blue copic arker and am going to try the halo around the image. It looks so nice. Beautiful stamp set. I just finished a Happy card for my sis. Can’t send it as I don’t have a camera but it was so fun to make. I need to find stamps with inspirational sayings as she suffers from depression and I want to make her some more happy cards.
Kathy Racoosin says
Happy cards are the best ones to receive. I’m sure your sister loves getting them. You might try Verses Rubber Stamps, Impression Obsessions, and Reverse Confetti for some inspirational sayings. Doing a blue halo around the image you might want to use MFT hybrid ink so you have an ink that works with watercoloring and copic. Relax with color. 🙂
Linda Tupper says
Thank you SO much for the reply. I will check those stamps out and thank you for the tip for the ink. I was trying to remember which one to use. I’m putting a simon order in soon so thank you so much again for your ideas. I really appreciate it. Sending hugs

Lovely–thanks for the tip on doing a copic halo background to keep the watercolor in place–hadn’t known about that but it’s a great tip! Happy coloring–it’s my “evening” TV time–color, relax and watch the stress melt away!
Kathy Racoosin says
I need to clarify a little more about the halo. The copic halo will not keep the watercolor in place. The only way to do that is to emboss you image. I chose to do a copic halo because I could control it more than a watercolor shadow for this image and the look I wanted. MFT hybrid ink is compatible with watercolor and copic. This ink would have made it easier and no bleeding with the copic marker. Relax with color and thanks for joining in on the fun. 🙂

I love how you colored this one. I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished. I broke down and with the sale I bought some Copics! I can’t wait to work with them. Everyone keeps saying how amazing they are and I am about to find that out. A friend of mine actually took classes when she got her Copics! I hope I don’t need to learn anything special to use my markers.
Oh yeah and I love that new Giving Thanks set! I can think of so many uses for it.
Kathy Racoosin says
Exciting news. You will love your Copics. They are the best. They can do so much in so many different ways. After playing with you Copics you might want to take a Copic class. You’ll really learn how to get the value of what Copics can do. I have several videos archived on my blog pertaining to Copics that you might find helpful. 🙂
Aileen says
Mmm I too have used copics to add a halo after painting when theres a bit of bleed. Its amazing the tricks we can use. Love the rusty looking wheelbarrow.

That class I won a couple months ago from your site has helped tremendously, but I need to pick at ur brain so I can be that good.
Kathy Racoosin says
I’m thrilled you enjoyed the class you won. Keep coloring and watching techniques. Have fun and doing something for yourself is the best thing! You can always pick my brain. LOL As you can see I’ve been having oops moments during this challenge but we learn from our mistakes. 🙂

DELIGHTFUL stamping and BEAUTIFUL colouring Kathy!!!
Great recovery with your Copic slip … luckily I don’t face that challenge {yet}, I’m still learning to colour with my distress inks and new sparkling Zig Glitter Markers … I confess that I’m behind with my blogging, been too busy colouring & creating, hoping to catch up with my photos, posts and shares tomorrow 🙂
